Who Remembers Tony Rich?

Yall remember Tony Rich from the LaFace label? Had a couple of CDs, the debut being The Tony Rich project which yielded the hit Noboby Knows. I guess he was too early to be "John Legend" in an R&B era that would've rather made him a male Toni Braxton, his contemporary and label mate. Hope he's still writing and getting paid.

I listened to his second relese "Birdseye" a few weeks ago. Got so sick of it that I chucked it out the window of the car. I fel bad afterward, but only because I littered. That disc was baaaad. Ok, the title track was the best of the bunch, but evey song started out the exact same way. I dunno. Yuk.
A happy face, A Thumpin Bass, For A Lovin' Race. PEACE.

Actually, the debut was called Words. It was credited to "The Tony Rich Project." I thought that was pretty pretentious, but whatever. I liked the first 3 singles ("Nobody Knows," "Like a Woman," and "Leavin'"), but I thought the album as a whole was a little overrated.

Liked his 2nd disc more than the first although it was pretty much an extension of the first cd. I'd got out and see if th ecopy you through out of your car is still somewhere on the road:)

I see what you mean though, all the songs sounded very similar. I did love 'blue butterfly' for the way he sang in a falsetto for the 1st time. I got his 3rd disc, Resurrected. It was a bit more 'rock' and I loved some parts of it. There is one great guitar to the fore song called, 'the only way to love me'. Who ever is playing guitar throughout is really good.

evillol The novelty of Tony Rich had ran out by the second CD which isn't suprising. Considering his sound was another Face sounding clone.

A big co-sign on that statement. I heard his 2nd release "Birdsye" when it came out and it was pretty awful. I figured this guy has been hanging and jamming with P and Stevie and Larry etc, that some of that greatness would have rubbed off on him.

The last picture I saw of him he looked like he changed his image up some (tattoos, his hair grown out, and holding a Stratocaster) but I don't if his music went with the change. Nothing against the guy (because he is talented) but his music never did anything for me.
