Gene Chandler Appreciation Thread! Gene Chandler is one of the most forgotten or not talked about Soul Legends ever.He started out in the group the Dukey's and had a few minor hit with them but it would be the Doo=Wop classics "Duke of Earl" in 62 that got Gene a nukber one hit. Je had hits throughout the 60's all the way to the 1980's. He was one of the best doing Chicago Soul.
Some of my favorites: - Just Be True - Think Nothing About It - What Now - Rainbow (DAMN!) - To Be a Lover - Familiar Footsteps (Soul Train theme) PRINCE: Always and Forever

I loved his "Rainbow", the live version is beyond stunning (this song paved the way for the LIVE version of "Distant Lover", I think... )
Have to say though besides that and "The Duke of Earl", I'm not too familiar with him but I don't dispute that he was an underrated musician. But I'd probably heard some of these songs already, just had no idea who sung them.

If you like 60's nothern soul from Chicago and Philadelphia (he recorded in both cities) then you'll love some Gene Chandler. Curtis Mayfield worked with him alot from 1962-1967 so his musc has a nice Imnpressions/Major Lance/Jerry Butler feel to it (the Impressions are singing back-up on a lot of his tunes). When he got Phily he worked with lots of Phily artist. PRINCE: Always and Forever

Rainbow live
I'm asking you baby! I'm asking you baby! I'm asking you baby! When i was a little boy, my dad had his duke of earl album. The label was pink and i think he recorded for upfront records. He had on a knight's armor suit. I can't even remember the names of the songs on the album. Like someone said earlier i am really only familiar with duke of earl and his earlier live version of rainbow and rainbow 80. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint
