Billie Holiday: Remixed and Reimagined

They’ve given Billie Holiday the remix treatment with reworkings by Nickodemus, DJ Logic, Tony Humphries and others. I think they’re really quality and do her music justice. What do you think?

Hmmm ...

Whilst I like Billie Holiday, I do think her to be somewhat over-rated smile. I'm more of a Sarah Vaughn man myself.

Having said that, I certainly think Billie deserves better than these remixes no no no!.

And this is coming from someone who bought and quite enjoyed an album of Charlie Parker remixes last year, which I thought were interesting overall. At least with Bird, we know he was always a pretty experimental artist.

I'm in two minds here really. It can be fun to draw a moustache on a copy of the Mona Lisa, as it were, cos the original is still there to enjoy and amaze.

I wouldn't rule out some kind of Holiday remix thang if done with respect, originality and taste, but from what I've heard of these ones, they aren't to my taste, and are trying things that seem to go against the spirit of the original music. Sometimes we need to leave well enough alone. There was nothing very wrong with the originals after all. smile

Try to find Verve Remixed

It's got a Tricky remix of Strange Fruit that actually works.
