No, the first leg in Japan and Australia were warm-ups for the rest of the tour. When it kicked off in the summer of 1988 that's where the "real" shows are. These were just for extra promotion in 1987 when the album had just been released.

It's a shame Mike didn't start the tour off doing more Bad songs because his voice was in great shape at that point and he was singing 100% live. His vocals were never so good again. As the tour went on the quality of the vocals declined. Unfortunately, in the 87 leg he's doing songs like Things I Do For You and Lovely One that should've been dropped by that point. I doubt if most people in the audience had ever heard those songs before. That means we don't have the totally flawless Bad concert we would liked to have had for posterity.
But all in all I would much rather they released one of the early American dates. I'll take a little vocal roughness if it means I get a truer representation of MJ in that time.

I'd rather have some music videos and television performances from the "Destiny" and "Triumph" era. By the time "Bad" had come out, Michael's music had become much weaker. The only thing he gave a damn about by then was making pop and pleasing mass audiences.....yuck.

Cool, I'm definitely picking this up.

Incidently, will they be releasing this on CD as well? I'd like to have an audio concert of this tour.

Can anyone tell me about the Live in Budapest Dangerous Tour dvd? Is it mostly lip-synching? Can anyone post a setlist if it's not too much of a bother? I'm not a big MJ fan (obviously) but I dig some of his stuff and the youtube links posted above were pretty good so I'm wondering whether the Dangerous Tour dvd is something worth getting for me...though the BAD one looks better though the release date is pretty far off.

Not a question of forgetting where he started from.

It just didn't fit in the list.

In fact, the whole list needed a make over lol

Because he's Michael Jackson. There are few others who can do that.

The Live in Budapest: Dangerous Tour dvd, is crap and it's not the actual Budapest concert. I tapped the original transmission of it on BBC1 in November 1992, as it was shown in Europe first.

The DVD version of the concert was shown on HBO in December 1992, and that version is different from the original transmission because it's been re-edited with shots put in from various European concerts. So some performances of Michael singing Wanna Be Startin Somethin, She's Out of My Life and Man In The Mirror etc are filled with edited from various concerts. This gives the DVD version of the concert a very contrived look and feel.

So my advice is don't by the Live in Budapest: Dangerous Tour dvd. I own the DVD version because it came as part of the Michael Jackson: Ultimate Collection box set.

I've had this 1987 Japan Bad concert on video since 1989. It's quite a good concert, but like the Dangerous Tour dvd it's not a good representation of the Bad Tour. And both of them don't show how amazing Michael Jackson is live.

What fans want is the 1988 European or USA leg of the Bad Tour where Michael sang a lot of songs from the Bad album, and sang and danced 100% live better than any artist past and presnt.

Just like the British had with the Beatles, he was America's greatest export and so many things came together for him in the world of music (Thriller was already a classic and the anticipation for BAD) and the fact that in some places, they were being introduced to American pop music for the first time (especially if they were under former dictatorships that prevented American/western music/ideas).
