MARIAH and the Beatles

A conversation i had with someone the other day and they asked me if i thought that Mariah would beat the beatles number ones record. Mariah stands at 17 now and of course Elvis at 18 and The Beatles at 20. I do think Mariah will beat the record, probably within the next 2 albums, maybe tieing it with this one coming in November. But like i told this person you have to look at the whole picture. If Mariah does break it within the next 3 years say, she would have done it in a 20 year span 1990-2010, where as the Beatles did it during 1964-1970. Also times have changed in the way singles are tracked, first of all "sales of singles" is not even happening now, there are no 45's and cd singles like there used to be, true, there were when Mariah first started. Not that im trying to take anything away from Mariah, but her beating the Beatles record is comparable to Barry Bonds beating Hank Aarons Homerun Record. BUT with all that aside, though Barry will break the Homerun record it will only stand a few years UNTIL a Real hitter like ALEX RODRIGUEZ breaks barry's, however with Mariah once she passes the Beatles, i think that record will stand forever. So theres no comparison between the two, different times, different competition, different charting techniques, one thing i will give Mariah though shes got much better LEGS smile

She doesn't have Mottolla at her side...and those very "normal" discount prices of the singles

The funny thing is that whole .99cnet single issue, is just what they sell for now, though when she left Sony and EMI priced the Loverboy single between 49 and 99 cents, SONY battle right back with Destinys Child and Bootylicious going for the same price, so its all the same thing. She is however coming off an album where she had 2 number one singles, so i think its a matter of 2 more albums and she'll break it.

It would be in her best interest if she didn't. Rock critics who love to loathe Mariah would rip her a new one. There's no way they'd let any acknowledgement that placed her above the Beatles on any level stand.

Well its not really under her control, she still has one more album owed to Def Jam and im sure Def Jam is going to do all they can to repeat the sales of MIMI, especially the way things are going at labels and considering the $$ that Def Jam is losing. So dont be surprised if once her single debuts in mid september, Def Jam does nothing but get her on every stationb and every tv.

Mariah DOES have great legs (i'm a "thigh guy" and i don't care for her much but, GREAT pics). i feel your point, but bad analogy about baseball. no offense, but i doubt if you are a REAL baseball fan or someone whose gotten schooled on Barry Bonds by a two-minute Sportscenter clip. and the only reason i say that is because real baseball fans are RARE, and just like Wikipedia on various subjects, ppl can watch CNN, or Sportcenter and feel like "instant experts". not that I'M one, but i've been a fan of Barry's every since he was one of the "killer B's" on the Pittsburg Pirates. Barry was a sure bet Hall of Famer BEFORE the period of alleged use (and i DO believe he used) because he was the total package, the home run record will be perceived as tarnished, but the time span differential in you Mariah/Beatles discussion warranted a different analogy. it's like if Mariah pulled a Milli Vanilli after her 14th #1, the others wouldn't be HERS, but she still had 14 on her own merit. anywho, just thought i'd grind my axe on in unexpected place. LOL
