I know what you mean. How is that Madonna can go into the recording studio and in just a few months (not years),she has a new CD all ready to go? Her upcoming CD is due October 29....almost exactly two years since her last CD 'Confessions' was released. This goes back to what I said in another thread.Prince and Madonna are still INSPIRED by music and performing. This is their life and they couldn't just stop doing it.When you lose the drive to do it,it's probably time to retire.

My inner michael jacskon fan says:

I think makes takes so much time because he's a perfectionist

lol

I actually meant to comment that I don't buy the perfectionist excuse anymore.

I think Prince and Madonna are perfectionist too or at the very least want things done a particular way, especially when it comes to their visual performance.

Even if it does take years to put out an album 6? Every time? Sure, a few of those years is the artist living his/her life, relaxing/vacationing, tending to personal demands such as spouse and kids, then of course there’s touring, song writing, etc. But then you go in the studio and you actually record what you’ve been working on which usually takes a few to several months depending upon studio time, producer and musician availability. Then you have artwork, pressing, marketing, promotion, blah blah blah and a video or two.

(Hell, I’ll even throw Mariah in there whether folks like her or not. That chick works her ass off. She may not tour often but she’s pretty consistent with her CD releases, videos and fans know how much effort she puts into remixes. She also stays in touch with her fans letting them know ‘hey, it ain’t gonna happen’ or this is what we have planned.)

People have done in under a year at the least.

But I agree with SoulAlive that when you have that sort of passion and creativity in you, you can’t NOT make music. You will create and you will find a way to get your music out there even if you have to leak it yourself.

Perfectionism to the point where you don't release product is fear. Fear that the art is not good enough.

Being a perfectionist is not always a good trait.

I think the worse thing about waiting for a Michael Jackson album (apart from the danger of dying of natural causes before it comes out) is the fact that he doesn't communicate with his fans and his hopeless publicist just denies everything and confirms nothing.

It's absolutely incredible that an artist of his status hasn't got a properly updated website, for example. There was talk of one going online about six months ago and guess what ? So far nothing has happened.

Its pretty clear....

for a while i thought it was the trial that got in the way of a new cd, and his recovery from that would've taken at least a year... but that was over 2.5 years ago.

He just isnt interested in music anymore.. he's even said it himself.

I think its probably the right thing to do, focus on those kids he has and have some sort of normal life.

You have to remember MJ has been around since the 60s, even if he gave up after Thriller, thats enough material to be remembered by.

I have to agree there. I get the feeling that Michael is no longer interested in making music either and as a long time fan of his, it saddens me but he just doesn't seem to care about music or performing anymore. I guess I will have to just stick to listening to old MJ/Jacksons records and watching performances on youtube since it seems like MJ the solo artist is no more.
"And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ heart

"Baby, that was much too fast"...Goodnight dear sweet Prince. I'll love you always heart

Let Mike do whatever he feels like doing. Obviously "the world" is not his main interest right now.

....anyways, what the hell am I talking about? I know nothing about what he does, where he is or what he´s up to.....let´s not forget, Mike has always loved being secretive

This is exactly why I think MJ should do an Unplugged performance and CD,playing old songs.Perhaps hearing these old songs again will inspire him...remind him of how good it feels to perform these songs....he will see the smiling fans, clapping and singing along. He will be reminded of how much these songs mean to people. He will be reminded of the power of a good melody.

What fan wouldn't kill to hear acoustic versions of "I Can't Help It","Human Nature" and "Liberian Girl"?

Unlike a big, expensive album that takes years to record....an acoustic CD could be put together in a matter of weeks. He could do an MTV Unplugged performance next month and have the CD in stores a few weeks later.

Michael is suffering from his own self-perpetuated "larger-than-life" image.

An MTV unplugged performance would be amazing...but to Mike it probably wouldn't seem big or grandiose enough.

No doubt about it, the Man has Ego issues.
But shit i would too if i beat the records he has beaten..., But i digress...
I dunno but something inside me thinks he likes this Wacko Jacko mystiq.
I guess their is no such thing as bad publicity, cause he is always being talked about. Good or bad...
Which is why he probably won't don't the unplugged thing. As long as he thinks people are still talking about him and are somewhat interested, he thinks he has a shot. And he might be right anout that, but the approach i don't agree with.
Its probably noot the first itime i've said this. But i just don't think he likes working. He's a weird type of musician/artist.
He doesn't own his own recording studio, He doesn't produce anybody. He barely writes for people anymore. I think the man just doesn't like the work.
i mean the first thing any REAL artist does (In my own opinion), is build their own recording studio. 1. don't have to pay these outrageous recording studio rental fees. 2. You have 24 hour access to it, and can create demos and records. 3. You can rent it out and prescribe outrageous fees, use it as another source of income.

I mean it would seem to be a logical investment...
than again logical and Michael Jackson shouldn't be in the same sentence i suppose

Michael Jackson is the perfect example of what Marvin Gaye talks about in "Ego Tripping Out" with the exceptions of sleeping with tons of ladies ("what's wrong with sharing your bed with anybody be it a child or an adult?") and the "toot and the smoke". lol

He wants everything so big and grand that it would blow our minds, well we've had 20 years of that and his imitators are just straight copying him. I want the dude to shock me instead of trying to compete for that pop crown, compete for his creativity as an artist. I also think Mike gets frustrated easily and will forget a project rather than conclude it (the "Resurrection" album, the "What More Can I Give" and "I Have This Dream" humanitarian projects that were to be released but both songs were clouded in controversy over various things). I think Michael is stuck between being set in his ways and doing something completely different. Plus, why would a 50-year-old man (ok he's 49 but he's closing in on 50 so what the hell) would wanna try to outdo Chris Brown? Do something different is all I want from Michael. If he wants to give it up, I'll accept it because the way things are going, how can we be sure that Michael will even put out a single much less an album? shrug

well if u think about it, HIStory (which came out in '95), was his last album of all new material of the 90s.

so he released one album from 1995 - 2007 biggrin

I think it was some kind of business decision to put out "HIStory" as a part-hits, part-studio album, it did work benefits but I often thought he was just adding on to sales by doing that since both albums sold 3.5 million each.

"Blood on the Dance Floor" was actually a repeat album full of songs that failed to make the cut for the "HIStory" album, because apparently he wanted more star power and hit-making producers to help give him an album that would be catchy enough so people will catch all the other songs on the record. Adding in R. Kelly, Dallas Austin, Shaq, Janet, Biggie, etc. lol

But "Invincible" WAS Mike's first FULL-length studio album since "Dangerous" (1991). I would say Michael's release time lines have been a comedy of errors especially considering all the personal mess that have come in and have totally made a smirk on Michael's record. How can you focus on an album when you got lawsuits popping out your butt and all other issues?

It's been a mess since the early-'90s, as unfortunate as I wanna point that out, but it has. True he's capable of selling modestly well (for him to sell two million after having not come out with a record in six years is incredible considering all the mess he was in) but how would he think a big and grandiose production will bring out triumphs of the old?

His best chance to do something that would please him and his audience is to totally remove all the extra markings and start over fresh. That is if he wants to.

It seems Michael's always been a victim of his own success. Thriller was just so huge that its shadow has lingered over everything he's done, and I think he's always felt like he needs to reach that level again (which is impossible).

What I think would be great for him and the world would be to do something similar to what Prince did with Musicology. Strip it down. Don't worry about the teen fans. Come back with a vengeance and remind everyone, including yourself, just WHY you are a legend and one of the baddest performers of all time. Despite all the legal chaos, I think most people want to like MJ again. All he has to do is give them a reason to, and remind them why they liked him in the first place. Not only did this approach give Prince a commercial boost, it solidified his legacy and started an entirely new chapter in his career. It would be amazing to see Michael "come back to Earth" and do the same thing.

I've always said that "Thriller" was both a blessing and a curse for him. He did a lot of things with "Thriller" and it wasn't just sales, he did things that were BIG enough to help in granting the sales "Thriller" eventually succeeded with. And it sold like a hundred million globally (allegedly), so yeah I think he got shafted by "Thriller" because of all that it accomplished.

With "Invincible", he had an album done, Sony didn't like it. He got pissed, scrapped the album, restarted and it got worse.
I remember during that Access Hollywood interview, Billy Bush suggested that Michael do some intimate, unplugged-type shows. Michael genuinely said "Wow, I never even thought about that" then Will I Am's BITCH ASS had to interrupt and said "No, he's Michael Jackson. It has to be big and a huge event."
You don't know how much I wanted to go through my television and give him a Joe Jackson/Ike Turner ass whuppin!

It shouldn't be an issue. Tina toured till she was 60, The ROlling Stones are still on tour and god knows how old they are. Michael is still yet to turn 50. If he cans till dance and lip syn he can atleast make it look like the old Michael.

His US fanbase is falling. Are they still crazy fr him in Europe?
