The Best Of Soul Train - 7/28/07 I had to work this evening and The Audience usually has a good thread going about the current "Soul Train" episode. Since he's missing in action this evening, I guess I'll start a thread on it. The Audience, whenever you pop in, please feel free to post the great song listings that you usually do.
Anway, this week's episode featured Ray Parker, Jr. and Sister Sledge. I thought the whole show was great. I loved seeing the dancers dance to jams like "Work That Sucker To Death" by Xavier, "You're The One For Me" by D Train, "Let's Work" by Prince, "The Gigolo" by O'Bryan, and "Let It Whip" by The Dazz Band. This week was a great episode. Keep 'em coming Don! Andy is a four letter word.

SoulAlive said: damn,I missed this episode! You would have loved it! Ray Parker, Jr. performed "The Other Woman" and Sister Sledge performed "My Guy". My favorite was songs for the dancers though. They had some great songs this week. It was great to hear "Let's Work" on the "Soul Train". It's a damn shame Prince never came on the show to perform it. The audience would have went wild. Ray Parker and Sister Sledge were great on the show! And that dude who was dancing with the basketball was classic, I guess he was a frequent "Soul Train" dancer.
Also loved the fact "Let's Work" played! That's been one of my favorite Prince joints. And I LOVE the original version of "All the Man I Need". I got a question though, was the man singing with Kathy her husband? She had mentioned to Don that she had just given birth to a baby seven weeks before she and her sisters performed. Now that I think about it, Whitney's version chews chunks compared to the Sledges' version.

This was a good one, and I cannot believe they played Let It Whip after my mentioning it in another thread.
I'm sure this has already been mentioned, but I just noticed that Cheryl Song is one of the dancers in the Super Freak video.

I have to say I enjoyed this episode too. (Where's Aud?) The classic Smokey clip was great. Don was funny trying to mack out on Joni (my fav Sledge sister..yum-yum!) during the interview. Debbie and Kathy looked great for just giving birth.
I remember Ray Parker Jr. said back then he was trying hard to get into movies so that probably explained all the showmanship moves and looks into the camera. And I questioned it back then in the 80's..what was up with Louis (dancer) and his psuedo Micheal Jackson moves? (lol)..it seemed that's all he knew how to do.

Either that or he was a pseudo break dancer. Ray Parker is another one of those GREAT guitarists. He could've done more though in his own career since his music was a mixture of R&B and rock.

I don't know if anyone noticed, but during the station id segment (1/2 way through the show), the camera guy was all under one girl's skirt. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Been out of town on business since the middle of last week and forgot to set the DVR. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 No problem. I was working Saturday night, was bored, and was looking at the org. The majority of the threads on the first page of this section was either some boring new slow artist or some damn shit hop artist. I kept waiting and waiting for you to come online with your thread. All the decent threads were slipping down to the second page and being replaced by bullshit threads. Finally I gave up and started the "Soul Train" thread myself. I waited as long as I could though but when things become overrun with shit hop, it's like being tortured. I needed some relief. . . And baby doll was the first to come down the soul train line in that blue dress, shaking her sexy Are you talking about the one in the blue sailor dress? She used to trip us out the way she used to dance. She was always on one of those pedastols at the back of the stage. She had the one little dance she would always do. She would squat and straddle that damn pedastol and go round and round like she was on one those tops that we grew up with. It takes me to mimmick her. At every drunken party, a good friend of mine would holler...."Hey Andy, do that dance that bitch used to do on Soul Train!". I would do it and we would all just crack up until our sides hurted from laughing. Andy is a four letter word.
