UNEARTHED GEM: Freddie Jackson's "Just Like the First Time" (1986) 
Of all the standout 1980s soul albums, it seems like Jackson's sophomore effort is often overlooked. "Just Like the First Time" spent an amazing 27 weeks atop the Billboard R&B Albums charts and spawned the No. 1 singles "Tasty Love," "Have You Ever Loved Somebody" and "Jam Tonight" (another No. 1 song with Melba Moore -- "Just A Little Bit More" -- was later added on the CD version), with "I Don't Want to Lose Your Love" peaking at No. 2. If you're a fan of 1980s conservative R&B/romantic music, this one is a must-have. 'Have you Ever Loved Somebody" is a standout tune. Rest of the album is an utter snooze-fest. A happy face, A Thumpin Bass, For A Lovin' Race. PEACE. | |
