Great Music Documentary: Tom Dowd and the Language of Music

http://www.thelanguageofmusic.com/

I just got through watching it on IFC and this was one of the best music docs I've ever seen. This dude was phenomenal. He was part of the Manhattan Project (Atomic Bomb) but made his life and legend in the music biz. Unreal.

Some of the people that are in it:

- Ray Charles
- It has some FANTASTIC footage of Otis Redding doing his thing
- Aretha (I NEVER knew she could throwdown on the keys the way she did in the doc.)
- Eric Clapton
- Lynrd Skynrd
- The Allman Brothers
- Booker T and MGs (I never knew they were a mixed group)

This dude was monumental in music and especially the 8-track. He worked with The Beatles, Stax Records, Mingus, Dizzy - This is a must see and a must have for music enthusiasts.

nod The classic footage of all the greats like Ray, Areatha, Allman Brothers, Booker T & The MGs , and Lynard Skyanrd makes the doc worthwile.

headbang

I was truly taken aback at how none of the artists were tripping off race or anything like that, which proves music does bring people together. Watching Booker T and the MGs got me kinda emotional, especially when I saw the crowd was predominantly white. Good stuff.

It was a great documentary and I've no problems with Tom Dowd and the word genius being mentioned in the same sentence. Not only was he an innovating and brilliant scientist, but a record producer/engineer as well.

Exactly. That's what makes him genius - he excelled in both worlds with no problem.

It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

Gotta throw Arif in that mix.

Among the great Atlantic records he was involved in was this little 60s gem...
