Whoever made up this list had to be smoking crack. How can MJ's HIStory be at #6 after selling 7 million copies(3.5 DOUBLE albums in the US, not the 2.5 million stated in this list) be considered a flop? The fact that this album sold 32 million(16 million double albums) worldwide made it at the time(could still be) the Biggest selling double album in history(pun intended). Of course, there are those idiots who considered Invincible a "flop" after selling 2.5 million in the US, debuting at Number 1 in 14 countries and selling 10 million worldwide.

Doesn’t an album have to have high expectations or an expectation to sell period to be considered a flop. Was anyone really expecting Federline to sell? I think his album was right on target.

Skyecute is right, HIStory did 3.5m in the US, not 2.5m, so it was a double album, and sold over 1m more than every other album in that list and was a much much bigger success overseas anyway - what the hell is it doing there? I was expecting Invincible to be on the list at least, since that sold less and was actually most successful in the US and couldn't rely as much on the overseas sales (it was only a proper hit in France).

Just goes to show the double standards these folks have. And why is the Beastie Boys album considered a flop at 2m?

I really love "Lost in You." I should track down this album. hmmm

Am I the only one who thought this was a genius marketing ploy? I loved the fact that he changed his look just so he could try a different music genre. It takes major balls to try something like that I dug it.

If u wanna get technical, it was a flop. HIStory may have sold that much, but Sony spent $30 million in promotion. It may have recouped the amount based on international sales(which were ALOT better), but in the US History was disappointing.

That said, I would have put Invincible on the list instead. It sold slightly less, actually cost the label alot more money than HIStory did, and at least HIStory managed to score a no.1 hit. Granted, "Butterflies" could have been a BIG hit, but Sony seriously fucked up there.

3.5million albums in the US alone is not and never will be a flop.. Not one album has sold that amount of copies this year.

oh and it was a double cd costing almost double price.. counting as 2 sales.. i.e. 7million.

I wouldnt even consider Rave a flop, it got to no 19 in the album chart, wasnt promoted at all except TGRES VIDEO sold almost half a million.

Because Licensed to Ill is currently certified at eight million copies in the states. Paul's Boutique was expected to match those sales and missed by far.

Bleh, they churned out albums pretty quickly. It's just a classic case of a difficult follow-up to success they'd never likely duplicate again, like the whole Purple Rain/Around The World In A Day thing.

The thing about Dylans 'Self Portrait' is that he deliberately created an album to alienate the psychotic hippie lunatics who were demanding him to lead some kind of counter culture revolution. It did what it was supposed to do.

It would be suitable to say that because Schizophrenic was all over soundwise that it couldn't be marketed as just pop...
