Why did I bother, the beatles, U2 and Led Zep as overepresented, as usual. Only one album from Stevie, Jimi and Radiohead. Nothing from P-FUNK, Sly (Riot is at least top 5) or James Brown.

nod I agree with your highlights completely. Not only are they not top 200 material, many of them aren't even mediocre.

I agree, this list blows. Nothing from James Brown?!?! Also should be a couple Zappas on there , and.... well, screw it -- this list is terrible. Definitive 200? Please.

Yes, there should be.

and while we're at it,
Talking Heads Remain In Light anyone?

These choices are grounds to put the RRHOF into receivership for rank incompetence.

21. SHANIA TWAIN – COME ON OVER
37. SOUNDTRACK – GREASE
57. 50 CENT – GET RICH OR DIE TRYIN’
76. FAITH HILL – BREATHE
67. USHER – CONFESSIONS
68. KID ROCK – DEVIL WITHOUT A CAUSE
84. LINKIN PARK – HYBRID THEORY
94. NELLY – COUNTRY GRAMMAR
95. CREED – HUMAN CLAY
154. WILL SMITH – BIG WILLIE STYLE
97. CELINE DION – FALLING INTO YOU
105. TLC – CRAZYSEXYCOOL
127. CHRISTINA AGUILERA – CHRISTINA AGUILERA
128. JAY-Z – THE BLUEPRINT
129. ALICIA KEYS – DIARY OF ALICIA KEYS
135. LIONEL RICHIE – CAN’T SLOW DOWN
145. TONI BRAXTON – TONI BRAXTON
159. BOYZ II MEN – COOLEYHIGHHARMONY
162. AVRIL LAVIGNE – LET GO
172. SHAKIRA – LAUNDRY SERVICE
183. BEYONCE – DANGEROUSLY IN LOVE
189. JAY-Z – IN MY LIFETIME VOL 1
199. OUTKAST – AQUEMINI

Many of these albums are good. But too high. But any list with Will Smith, Celine Dion, Linkin Park, Faith Hill, Shania Twain and Kid Rock among "definitive" Rock Albums? Really?

And honestly, Jay-Z has 3 different albums on the list, WITHOUT Reasonable Doubt among them Biggie on the list for Life After Death? OutKast with 2? No room for De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest or Run-DMC? Who did they turn to for the hip-hop selections? A 15-year old?

Get a clue, RRHOF.

I learned a long time ago that when magazines or institutions publish lists like this, you should just stop, look, then walk away laughing like it was a joke or something.

If not, you end up with blood shooting out your nose because you thought about it too hard. lol

Agreed. No Zappa. This list blows big time.

nod That's what I'm screaming. Once I saw it didn't have Innervisions, that was it for me. I can't believe there are so many replies (as I make another one). shrug

OK, I'll throw some eggs:

1.) OK, so Usher's "Confessions" (No. 67) is listed, but not Bobby Brown's "Don't Be Cruel?" Brown made it fashionable for urban styles to be popular with the MTV crowd -- if it wasn't for him, Usher wouldn't appeal to white fans without selling out.

2.) Madonna's "Like a Virgin" clocks in at No. 164 -- and that's her only album on the list? So not only did none of her other very successful, daring albums make it ("True Blue," "Erotica," etc.), but MADONNA has the same number of albums listed as NELLY?!?

3.) Meanwhile, Anita Baker has two albums -- "Rapture" is deservedly listed (but only at No. 184?), but the woefully average "Rhythm of Love" (No. 188) shouldn't come anywhere near this list.

4.) C'mon, Michael Jackson's "Dangerous" at No. 115? Not, say, Mary J. Blige's "My Life?"

5.) And let me make sure I get this right:

* The soundtracks for "Dirty Dancing" (No. 99) and "Forrest Gump" (No. 173) are "definitive;"

* Shakira's "Laundry Service" (No. 172) is "definitive;"

* 50 Cent's "Get Rich or Die Trying" (No. 57) and Will Smith's "Big Willie Style" (No. 154) are "definitive;"

BUT NOT Stevie Wonder's "Music of My Mind," "Talking Book," "Innervisions" and/or "Fulfillingness' First Finale?" That's BULLSHIT.
THE TRAFFIC JAMMERS, The Org's house band: VAINANDY -- lead singer; NAJEE -- bass; THE AUDIENCE -- guitar; PHUNKDADDY -- rhythm guitar; ALEX de PARIS -- keyboards; Da PRETTYMAN -- keyboards; FUNKENSTEIN -- drums. HOLD ON TO YOUR DRAWERS!

Pretty much, that list is all f*cked up. What does the Hall of Fame committee of voters think they are? lol

I feel that thinkgroups shouldn't come up with such lists because not only is someone is going to be left off, but when there are obvious missteps it makes the group look incompetent.

Yep, it's their fault though. They had a chance to prove they were different and they give us the same jive as before adding more bullshit to lists. That's the way they run unfortunately.

And to make it worse, you can't fault the group for being totally ignorant to one genre or subgenre of U.S. music. Madonna has only one album listed and it's not even in the top 150.

Exactly. That's just the way it goes.
