Caught the 2am show this morning. A fun show and the dance line and was great. "Calvin, Fuzzy, and Grady" were cool to see but nothing to write home about.

I wonder if the guys behind the masks were the real Funk Mob members hiding for contractual reasons?

Well, Calvin, Fuzzy, and Grady were original Parliament members.

And at that time, some legal stuff was going on about who can use the Funkadelic name...

I read the 1st 2 posts on this on yesterday, so I couldn't wait for Soul Train to come on so I could finally see the P (as in Funkadelic).

Imagine my disappointment when it was announced as Calvin, Grady, and Fuzzy (later of Original P fame) coming on as "Funkadelic" with some tune that I never heard of. I've seen Original P, before Grady passed away, several times over the last 10 years. For those that don't know, Original P was a touring act consisting of Calvin, Grady, and Fuzzy, dressed the same way as on Soul Train, and, along with band members that also perform with George and P-Funk, sing all of the old P-Funk tunes that were from their days with the band. They do Flashlight, Standing On The Verge, Up For The Downstroke, etc...

Just thought I'd share that. I still haven't watched the episode yet. After I realized that I was faked out with the "Funkadelic", I went to bed and I'll watch it later today.

You are referring to Ray Davis that passed away. Grady is alive and kickin lol And Original P is STILL touring, quite a good show I must say. Check them out.

I had hoped that Calvin, Grady, and Fuzzy's Funkadelic performed "You'll Like It Too" and "Phunklords", they were the best two songs off that album.

NOOOO!!!!! omfg I can't believe I missed the first 2 songs. I fucking love Linx and Skyy. doh! I had to race from my mother's house back to mine to catch this, but I missed the first 10 minutes.

But wait a second? Which version of Funkadelic was that? confuse Didn't they come out with "Electric Spanking of War Babies" that year?

Man, music really was much better back then. I've never had so much enthusiasm or anticipation for a show like I do with Classic Soul Train. lol

With classic Soul Train on tap, Solid Gold and American Bandstand don't have nothing on them. Talk about serious Funk & Soul history uncut. Dig it.

This episode was simply decent but I didn't care for any of the songs that Betty Wright or Funkadelic performed. A lot of the songs for the dancers have been played on other episodes since they started running the classic episodes.

I guess the turn off for me with this episode was the fact that it was obvious that it was filmed the same day as the Patrice Rushen/Sugarhill Gang episode. For those that have been recording all these episodes like I have, pull your Patrice Rushen episode and watch it again. All the dancers are wearing the same exact outfits as they were last Saturday. We didn't notice those things back in the day because we didn't have recorders to play the episodes over and over. lol

Yeah, I bout sick of those damn ballgames. If they ain't gonna play in the nude, like the old ancient Greek games, the only "ball games" I wanna see is in porn movies. lol

I love that song too. The dancers did a decent job with the song but I liked it better when they came down the line to "Super Love" on the Patrice Rushen episode....same clothes and all. lol

mutiny had a great lp I know of one that I have. and it was a different kind of jamming but I liked it.

this soul train had to be one of the better ones. I forgot about superlove. and everyone was giggaloing to that song too. JOE TEX COULD NOT LIP SINC but the dancing damita joe was doing with the mic and her legs and all was amazing! I really enjoyed that second song that funkadelic did. that was a cool lp. I liked connections and disconnections but didn't know who that funkadelic group was for that particular lp. this show was good whether they ballet danced or giggaloed.

hey vain andy I hear ya about the same clothes. they do film like four episodes in the same weekend so yeah they it does come across as they never change their clothes. I didn't know they have played these songs on other episodes. I must be missing more than I know. I didn't like the betty wright songs either. the first one was okay. they just won't air the episodes of artists who performed their hits. just some joints they promoted. that sucks.
