That is one of my personal favorite songs from Innervisions. There were wicked synthesizers and killer drums played throughout that classic. This is absoulutely the truth!

so i take it that was the main mood of the album? 'Cause i do not own that one but in that case..

It will be one of the best musical investments you will ever make. It's jazzy, funky, introspective, moody, truthful, and raw. You just can't own one track from this particular classic. You have to own the whole thing because it was and still is meant to be listened in its entirety, in scope and depth.

"Innervisions" is that CRACK music! I it... "Jesus Children of America" is boss as is everything else on that album. I still get chills listening to "All in Love is Fair".

i looooove me some Stevie. i don't know how to explain it. the man is just a great soul. his music uplifts me like no other "non-gospel" artist. he really is in a class by himself, a living treasure. when i saw him live a few years ago for the first (and only) time, it was CHILLING. he was the headliner at a free Tricentennial concert when Detroit turned 300 (2001) and it was like everyone in the city jammed Hart Plaza (downtown) to see him. Easily my best concert experience EVER. i don't remember if he did JCOA, but its definitely a song not to be missed. you know sometimes i wonder what Stevie and his music would be like if he could see. there isn't much room for improvement, definitely not on Innervisions.

Ultimate Stevie - his BEST album, IMO. I consider it a notch above 'Songs in the Key of Life'. It doesn't get any better than 'Living for the City'(just as relevant today as it was in 1973).

Me too. This song popped up on my iPod while I was riding the subway on Friday and I was just taken by the song. The music, the lyrics, everything. This song is excellent and it comes from an excellent album too.

And like you said, the anger slowly builds until it explodes at the song's finale - pure MFing genius. As much as I like Prince, Stevie's best was on another level.

I'm saying and the credo of vocals bringing the song to a calmer conclusion... Stevie's background vocals sounded like they came from heaven. It was like a Broadway play produced right in the middle of, like you said, the South Bronx or something like that. I'm still shocked by the genius of the man.

It's funny you just said that because even though I live in Chicago, that classic tune reminds me of the scene from Spike Lee's 1991 film, Jungle Fever, where Samuel L. Jackson's crack fiend character, Gator stole his Mama's TV and his younger brother, Flipper, had to try to get it back. But Gator had already smoked it up buying that crack! But the best thing about that scene was Stevie's Living For The City was playing and I think it suited the scene perfectly.
