Sly Stone at NSJ 2007 live ! Hi,
on www.slystonebook.com they have added the NSJ 2007 performance videos of Sly & TFS : http://www.slystonebook.c...5&Itemid=1 Tight band, and to my very surprise Sly's vocal abilities are still in full effect ! Even plays a piano solo, dances a little and jumps off the stage Only thing that bothers me is that although the band is tight it's just so NOT the Family Stone; except Cynthia Robinson there's no original band member at all.So somehow i have the feeling this "band" is exploiting his name in a way.On the other hand it might be just the right band to get him used to stage performance and back on track again as they are familiar with is ways and are able to improvise around him so to speak. I certainly hope at least now he has the right people and real friends around him - which i'm still not sure of (what about that mysterious Jerry Goldstein ?) - that tell him to get rid of that Iroquois haircut and get him the real comeback he so much deserves. Who knows - maybe after this tour he will be so back on track a *REAL* reunion with the original band members could be happening ?! Or maybe someone should convince Questlove to produce the new Sly album - that would be a killer ! Let's hope for the best.. [Edited 7/18/07 21:50pm]

Yeah, I was there too, and I also found the band to be surprisingly funky! (Since earlier, some people seem to have reported differently)
Although I did miss a little spontaneity. It seemed to me that the new band members were very concerned with making every part sound just like the original versions. While Sly himself, of course, didn't give a damn...

And Cynthia, by the way, looked very tired...
But her chops are really quite amazing for an old lady! If that's actually her playing...

im sure everyone on the org loves sly-the mans a legend-a musical tour de force-but this should never happened-the guy looks tragic-almost disabled.
slys musical heritage will never be broken but these recent shows and THAT tribute a few years ago should never happened.

I think Sly should have attempted his comback in the 80s.Look at how lively he looks in Jesse Johnson's "Crazay" video from 1986:
http://www.youtube.com/wa...e7KEi6R3Nk This would have been the ideal time for him to get the Family Stone back together and kick ass with new music and touring!
