Looking for a free DVD converting program

I have a DVD I purchased, I want to have the soundtrack on a CD (soundtrack is not available for purchase). Does anyone know of a program that would let me convert my DVD some how some way into a mp3 format so I may burn my own disc?? Any help would be appreciated.

Yes - it's more than possible, but quite hard to explain.

You'll need to rip the DVD to one long MPEG file first, using DVD Decrypter, DVD FAB Decrypter or DVD Shrink.

Once you've got one long MPEG, you'll have to trim it using a video editing tool like Video ReDo Plus.

Then, you'd have to demux (split) the audio from the video using something like TMPGenc Plus.

Run the resulting AC3 file through a program like Headac3he to create a regular WAV file.

Finally convert the WAV file to MP3 with any number of MP3 conversion programs.

What's the DVD?

Audio Hijack works pretty well. Basically, if something is playing on your computer, you can record it (from the source).

The DVD is Say Amen Somebody an old documentary i cannot get the soundtrack anywhere so I thought I would just rip it and burn it to a CD sounded easy and simple. The way you expalin it I would have to be some sort of expert. But I will give Se7en's way a try, hey can I use Audio Hijack with Windows OS?

Hmmm - doesn't look like they have a PC version. sad

I ripped the Rave Un2 The Year 2000 concert DVD into one long MP3 so I could listen to it whenever I wanted.

Mostly what I used it for, though, was converting the Musicology Room downloads (WMA) into just MP3s.

I use AOA DVD Ripper to convert my DVD movies to my iPod and you can rip the audio alone too into a wav file. I paid for my copy though neutral

I use a freeware program called Goldwave I found on download.com.
You have to plug your DVD player into the computer and record it in real time though. It converts it to MP# and then you can burn it onto a disc.
