Don't forget about "Thunder and Lightning" by Miss Thang which was the reply record to "The Rain"....

"I gave you things you couldn't even pronounce!" was another classic line from Oran "Juice" Jones' "The Rain."

It's definitely one of the best soul songs of 1986, but it's only because of Jones' rap at the end. That's what sold the song and made it memorable, not Jones' modest Stylistics-inspired singing or the production. I have to agree with Alex de Paris that there were some other songs that overall were superior.

[Edited 7/19/07 19:10pm]
THE TRAFFIC JAMMERS, The Org's house band: VAINANDY -- lead singer; NAJEE -- bass; THE AUDIENCE -- guitar; PHUNKDADDY -- rhythm guitar; ALEX de PARIS -- keyboards; Da PRETTYMAN -- keyboards; FUNKENSTEIN -- drums. HOLD ON TO YOUR DRAWERS!

Wasn't that Montell Jordan tune (This How We Do It) fairly successful?

I agree,it was definitely the spoken rap part that got people's attention.I like Jone's singing,too....he was a pretty good vocalist, obviously influenced by early-70s soul artists and groups. On his second album,he even did a remake of The Moment's "Not On The Outside",which wasn't half-bad.
