New Yoshi’s Jazz Club and Restaurant to Open in San Francisco Date: July 12, 2007 Written By: Kate Leary Expanding from its current location in Oakland’s Jack London Square, Yoshi’s Jazz Club & Japanese Restaurant will add its second Bay Area location in November of this year. Located at 1300 Fillmore Street (at Eddy) in the Fillmore District of San Francisco, the new venue will seat 417 in the jazz club, and 370 in the restaurant and lounge, covering a total 28,000 square feet over its two stories. Yoshi’s will occupy the bottom space of the Fillmore Heritage Center, a 13-story mixed-use development that will also contain a 6,000-square-foot Jazz Heritage Center. Yoshi’s recently celebrated its 10-year anniversary at its Oakland location, where it has hosted such renowned jazz performers as Oscar Peterson, McCoy Tyner, Pat Metheny, Poncho Sanchez, Stanley Turrentine and Diana Krall. The Executive Chef at the Oakland location, Shotaro “Sho” Kamio, will bring his take on modern Japanese cuisine to the San Francisco restaurant, overseeing the menu at the new Yoshi’s as well as at the original. San Francisco has not had a major jazz venue in 12 years, when Kimball’s East Supper Club closed its doors. Discussions between Yoshi’s and the city of San Francisco have been in the works since 2003, and Yoshi’s secured a loan from the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency in 2004. Construction got underway at the beginning of this year in the Fillmore District, an area that was known as the “Harlem of the West” during its heyday in the 1940s and 1950s for its numerous integrated live music halls and nightclubs. http://jazztimes.com/colu...icle=11165 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= One of the best venues to hear live music on the West Coast. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. Without question. I had promised Stax that I would come up when Jazz pianist McCoy Tyner did his yearly residency. Unfortunately, I let the dates slip by. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

LOVE Yoshi's And their food, SOS
Haven't seen a show there in a while, hopefully the two won't be competing for acts - I don't want the Oakland location to dry up. It's so nice to have... P should really play there
