Latin Funk

Can anybody suggest some good latin funk?
I like old school Irakere, Fania, Tim Maia, Jorge Bem...
Is there any new stuff as good as the old?

This may or may not be what you're looking for as it's more accurately funky Brazilian Jazz...

...Tania Maria love

Two songs of hers immediately came to mind, Come With Me & Don't Go

If any of you want to see an excellent documentary on Latin Jazz/Funk grab a copy of CALLE 54! It makes that Buena Vista Social Club movie look like shit! THe music is awesome! I love it!
Carpenters bend wood, fletchers bend arrows, wise men fashion themselves.

Don't Talk About It, Be About It!

You definitly should check out this amazing
compilaion from "souljazz" records called
"Nu Yorica-Experiments in latin music 1970-75"

Also, dig into Joe Bataan and his album "Salsoul"

Another superfunky album is from the legendary pianoplayer
Eddie Palmieri. There is a livealbum called "Live at the sing sing",
the prison and the energy from the band is fire to say the least.

Oh my God! Yes! The "Nuyorica 70-75" CD set. Got it for my old man as a Father's Day gift about ten years ago. It's unbelievably good. It's got this Louie Ramirez cut on it called "Barrio Nuevo" that is mind-blowing. This is the serious funk right here. You cannot go wrong with this.

Also, anyone into Latin Funk must hunt down the 12" version of Candido's "Dancin' and Prancin'". Latin disco-funk high heaven. Also, if you can find them on a compilation (they will set you back $100s on Ebay), 1970s tracks from Disco International from the 1970s such as LTD Exchange "Corazon" or "Waterbed".

Also, Ocho from the early 70s. Latin jazz meets James Brown. Traditional latin jazz feel but very funky at the same time.

Ooh, my bad. Does it mean anything else besides 'from NY'? Did not mean to offend anyone. I thought it meant 'something badass good'.

I would personally suggest some El Chicano...they got some niice funky Latin jams throughout all their albums.

This one would be my favorite, "This Is El Chicano"

"Say I'm lookin' at you, from the corner of my eye..." eye
