live:jamiroquai l/alexander o'neal /kool keith

I recently received the Live in Verona dvd for Jamiroquai. It is a bit of great playing and silly mess. The band is tight and I am pretty much a big fan of theirs. I was really pleased with how good Jay's voice sounded. He was in great form. He did a lot to please his audience with gyrations, dancing, sliding, etc. However,he is a bit of a wanker and sometimes acts in ways hard to defend. I watched it with someone whome I recently turned on and made a fan,but she was very annoyed with him and did not want to continue watching. She listens to the cd's daily, however. So,he can be a bit much, but they do get down. Gitt'n down is the reason I show up anyway.

I jam Alexander's stuff all the time. I never thought he'd be a good front man for the time. He became what he was supposed to be:a great r&b artist. I saw he had a live cd on amazon. I KNEW I had to have it. So,it comes and I rush it in the player. I was so curious to know how these tracks that I have heard for years would sound live. I was pleased to hear a good mix and solid playing. They sounded great. Now,believe it or not,A.O.'s voice was a weak point! There are limitations to his voice that really came out. Now,I do suggest this cd to any fans because it is nice, but I just wasn't prepared for that.I also think that as time goes on,I will notice this less.

My last live new recording is a dvd/cd of Kool keith live. This wasn't a must-have. I was simply curious. I don't like live hip hop outside of The Roots or someone doing something clever. I despise the playing of record and the emcee just rapping along with the record. Then, there's the stalking style of stage "presence" most rappers have. It's a studio medium and doesn't thrive live, imho.

KK is a nut! I do like a lot of hist music, however. And he is soooo inconsistent. One cd is a Steven Spielberg production and the next is Kevin Smith Clerks style. Yes,there are likeable elements ,but it's shoddy and amateurish. This all makes him more interesting. So,I had to see what this was all about.

The set is called Ultra-Octo-Dooom. The cd does sound great. Now,the dvd is funny. It isn't meant to be funny, though. You first see Keith walking to the club. You also have scenes of keith getting paid, signing contracts, giving the most boring impromptu interviews, ironing his shirt....I mean,it is just unreal! Then, there is Keith's hype man bragging that this is how they do it every day, etc. It's a joke! It is a joke. However,it's a joke that I willingly participate in because I am a fan.

One thing that struck me,though is that keith has almost no stage presence. He is for the studio. There is nothing interesting about him live. His crew is far more colorful. This truth is proven more by the bonus 1999 footage from teh Black Elvis period.Keith had the look and the characters ,but live, his crew take over. they feed off his studio creations and ride his coattails and in turn,he rides theirs live.

One last thing,I noted that keith seems to like big girls. That's cool.No rpblem. There are moments when female fans coe onstage to dance and keith kinda' ignores the cute ones and spends more time with the "more interesting" girls.Maybe, that is the point.he even ignored a girl who exposed her breasts!! That was going too far for me,though. I can't ignore something like that.I can't ignore a freak like keith who does, either. That's crazy talk, man!!

Kool Keith is CRAZAYYY ! He really is ! He hangs around with porn starlets and prostitutes and is quite comfortable with that and he likes big booty girls like Spantaneous Xstacy. ( Check the Sex Style album cover or google her). I have this VIBE interview from 96 where he talks about having two elephants on stage, fucking. It´s kind of his big dream. Supposedly, he used to pee on stage and jerk off into the crowd and against the speakers, at least that´s what the article says.
Weird guy...I like his flow but his lyrics don´t make much sense lol .

that Jamiroquai 'Live In Verona' DVD is unintentionally hilarious lol Why would they tape an outdoor show, knowing it could rain? confuse The band got drenched and it's funny watching Jay Kay get soaked as he tries to sing, lol.

Why didn't they simply tape one of the indoor shows for a DVD release?

In October,we will get another Jamiroquai Live DVD...the 2003 'Live At Montreux' show.I've seen a bootleg of this show and it's much better than the Verona show.
