jaime.

You know, I might could understand "better," even if I didn't agree with it.

But "MUCH better"?

Come on, na.

Freddie Jackson is a complete Joke and couldn't hold a candle to Luthers wind!
Luther is and was amazing, his voice is smooth, seductive, a true soul-crooner who has for many years stood the test of time in r&b/soul music.

He's far more famous and he's far more respected for his music. But its not about the fame and respect, its more so about the voice.

If Luther were still alive and held a free concert on the same night as Freddie.
If both shows were free and started at the same time. I could gurantee Luther would definitely be filled to compacity.

Just because he's got more songs that we can relate too and remember growing up.
Plus his music is far better in quality and the vocals live are just the same as they are on record. Freddie..should trade places with Luther, because his career died long ago.

UPDATE: As a matter of fact if Luther charged at his show and Freddie's was free, Luther would still have a sold out crowd, because freddie ain't shit!

No, remember Whitney made it clear that Bobby Brown was the King of R&B at the Soul Train Awards about 14 years ago...

... Oh wait, I think Jamie Foxx clarified that R&B as "Rocks and Blunts," my bad... lol

May I intervene? I think Howard Hewett has the greatest voice in male R&B singing. It's only my opionion but I do prefer his voice over Luther's!

dancerella, YOU just expanded the conflict!

Both are great singers. Freddie was better at uptempo numbers, and Howard could knock out a great ballad ("Somewhere There's A Love" being Exhibit A). But Luther's voice was THE voice of R&B for a generation.

OUCH! lol

Freddie Jackson has talent, but I think Luther simply made better music.Luther has several albums that are true classics ('Never Too Much','Forever For Always For Love',and 'Give Me The Reason').It's impossible to discuss 80s R&B without mentioning these albums.Freddie was more of a singles artist....I truly can't name a "classic" album by him. With Luther, even his non-singles got alot of attention and airplay ("Promise Me","Wait For Love","The Night I Fell In Love","The Other Side Of The World",etc).

Something else: Luther was an accomplished producer too.In the early 80s,he produced an album for Cheryl Lynn and two well-received albums by Aretha Franklin.I think he also produced an album for Gregory Hines.

I would have to say technically Luther Vandross was the better singer, but I found Freddie Jackson's music from the 1985-91 era more romantic for its purpose. I found Vandross' music to be too polished and lacking emotion. Just my opinion.
THE TRAFFIC JAMMERS, The Org's house band: VAINANDY -- lead singer; NAJEE -- bass; THE AUDIENCE -- guitar; PHUNKDADDY -- rhythm guitar; ALEX de PARIS -- keyboards; Da PRETTYMAN -- keyboards; FUNKENSTEIN -- drums. HOLD ON TO YOUR DRAWERS!

I can see that about some of Luther's work, but not songs like "House Without A Home," and "Forever, For Always, For Love."
