What The Hell Happened To Heavy Metal Music?

I missed the classic metal from the 70's and 80's where the singers actually sang and not constantly screaming all the time like today's heavy metal bands. I love heavy metal music that have lyrical contents to them and these bands of today just don't have it. Why do you have to srcream all through out the entire song? I missed bands like Whitesnake,Van Halen,Dio,Def Leppard,Black Sabbath,Queen,Thin Lizzy,Aerosmith,AC/DC,Alice Cooper, etc. The only bands I listen to today are Iron Maiden,Slayer, this new band called A BAND CALLED PAIN,and Meliah Rage. The rest of them just don't grab me. Do everybody else feel the same way I do about today's heavy metal music?

I agree, 99% of the newer 'heavy metal' acts are death metal bands in disguise. We need real metal back, like Ozzy, Iron Maiden, Sabbath, Megadeth, etc.

stop listening to metal about 8 years ago. I not sure where it went wrong exactly? Alice cooper has cited death of melody and song writing.

Sounds like a malady that's infected a number of genres unfortunately.

Best I remember Bon Sott screeched and howled at the top of his larynx (though melodically). Granted the music wasn't death-metal, but more blues-based.

I rarely remembered him. I listened to AC/DC when they had Brian Johnson as the lead singer.

Dream Theater have been around for a while, but still pump out awesome albums. Their style is Progressive Metal, so some of their track do go for a while, but theres always plenty of fast changes and crazy riffs happening. John Petrucci is an awesome guitarist, and James LeBrie's vocals are just the perfect fit for them, he sounds similar to the Iron Maiden singer to sort of give you a perspective of his voice, but i think its better.

Apprently Metallica are making a new album too, from what ive read its meant to get back to their "roots" with crazy solos and all the like, but i dunno if they can recover from St Anger hehe

Thanks for the info,Kcwm! smile As for Metallica,I hope they go back during the kind of metal they did back in the 80's.
