I bought this compilation back in 1994 when it was released and I'm still CRAZY about it! Teena fans....am I lying when I say that this compilation kicks ass? Seriously,if you want only one Teena compilation in your collection, this is the one. There's nothing on here past 1981,but that's okay.I think she recorded her best music when she was at Motown anyway.I like the fact that they include the full-length album versions. No single edits here. For the past several days,I've been listening to this CD alot.

The album as a whole, not just the track.

This compilation focuses on her Motown period. She left Motown in 1982 and eventually signed with Epic."Lovergirl" is from her Epic period.I've seen compilations that include material from both labels, but I'm partial to her Motown material.

That's a good album, but you need to explore her other albums too wink I suggest you start with 'Irons In The Fire' and 'It Must Be Magic',which is considered her masterpiece by many fans.

Many fans think this is her best album and it's hard to argue otherwise."Portugese Love" blows my mind!

Yeah,I like how they included some previously unreleased tracks. Her 1977 cover of "Every Little Bit Hurts" is superb.I bet there are many unreleased Teena Marie tracks, collecting dust in the Motown vaults. She signed with the label in 1976 but didn't actually release her first album until 1979.She recorded a ton of tracks during those years, but Motown didn't know how to market her yet.

I would love to hear the early tracks, her latest efforts didn`t really grab me...

There`s got to be loads of good stuff in the motown vaults. Just look the last Diana Ross releases, the album "Blue" and all the great rare tracks on the "Last time i saw him" set.

Did you check out the new limited edition?

I would definitely recommend it thumbs up!

It`s a UK based company that sells rare 70s/80s soul & jazz, hip-hop CDs, and they have some cool re-issues. Being a huge Melba Moore fan, i was very happy to see that they`ve recently released her two LPs "Never say never" and "Read my lips" on one cd woot!

A lot of great stuff there, you should all check it out.

I have that one. I also have one of the Epic comps. I combined tracks from both as well as added a few missing singles and made my own greatest hits collection.

It was left off of this compilation because it was compiled by Motown (her first label). The Ultimate Collection contains tracks from both Motown and Columbia.

A friend of mind gave me a bootleg tape of Rick James Live. In the middle of the set Teena came in and sang "Square Biz" and "I Need Your Lovin" She Killed it!! I mean, Her live performance sounds better then the record. I love me some Lady T.

Casonova Brown not being on that compilation prevented me from purchasing it. CB is my favorite song by Teena.

That sounds very similar to the live show released on the second disc of the remastered Street Songs CD:

Disc: 2 - Live in Long Beach, California, 1981
1. Introduction (live)
2. Ghetto Life (live)
3. Big Time (live)
4. Come Into My Life (live)
5. I'm A Sucker For Love (live; with Teena Marie)
6. Square Biz (live) - Teena Marie

7. Fire It Up (live)
8. Love Gun (live)
9. Do You Want Some Funk? (live)
10. Mary Jane (live)
11. Super Freak (live)
12. You And I (live)
13. Give It To Me Baby (live)

I heart Teena. Compilations mean nothing to me because when I really like an artist, I usually track down all of their records. I make my own compilations. This one was pretty good, though. I must admit.
