10 of your favorite Novelty Tunes

I realize that today it could encompass the entire Top 10.
There was a time when they were the exception and not the rule.

Mr. Bass Man - Johnny Cymbal
Mother-In-Law - Ernie K-Doe
If You Wanna Be Happy - Jimmy Soul
Basketball Jones - Cheech & Chong (featuring Tyrone Shoelaces)
Earache My Eye - Cheech & Chong
Witch Doctor - David Seville
Monster Mash - Bobby "Boris" Pickett
The Name Game - Shirley Ellis
Get A Job - The Silhouettes
I Need Your Help Barry Manilow - Ray Stevens

...These were a few that came to mind.

I'll have to think about it some more, but the one that immediately comes to my mind:

"The Chipmunk Song" - The Chipmunks

It's definitely one of my favorite Christmas songs. How can you resist "me, I want a hula-hoop"? biggrin

Yeah, the song is actually titled "The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late)."

I knew it reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, but I didn't realize it's apparently the only Christmas song to ever reach the top.

I'm not a fun person so novelty songs are not my thing. Having said that, I love this song which might qualify:

Don Quichotte - Magazine 60

video
rare TV performance

I still have the 12" that I bought over 20 years ago.

I've sworn off lists here, so I'm just naming one. lol This is the song that immediately comes to mind when I think of novelty songs (well, this and I'm Too Sexy by Right Said Fred). Coincidentally, this one entered the Hot 100 chart 35 years ago this month, peaking at #9. And, no, that's not me in the video:

Oh man, you're killing me. Those helium voices are like scratching nails on a blackboard. disbelief

I don't think Fred Schneider's "Monster" is so terrible. I should add that to my very short novelty list.
