Genesis & Phil Collins

Genesis is cool, and I dig Phil Collins too.

So what if orger's fathers listen to them too, I like 'em.. biggrin

I'm loving the more popular stuff:
    - Easy Lover
    - Invisible Touch
    - Land Of Confusion
    - Anything She Does
    - Hold On My Heart
    - Turn it On Again
    - Another Day In Paradise
    - I Wish It Would Rain Down
    - One More Night

All collins/genesis enthusiasts and haters gather here, (if you dare..) and stop hijacking threads.. mad

Best REAL Genesis album imo. Thanks to Peter tease

No, I don't hate Phil era Genesis.....it's just that there was a big difference in Genesis w/out Peter. You forgot "Mama" and " Tonight Tonight Tonight" on your list. I do like those Phil era song a lot. "Invisible Touch" is my guilty pleasure. redface Phil's solo is less tolerable though. I will admit I secretly get down to "Sussudio" disbelief lol I think everybody secretly likes "Sussudio" shhh

Good to see another Genesis fan on the forums. I love their music, although I prefer the early Genesis albums to the later catalogue. Phil Collins is a very talented songwriter, but Genesis is better without all the love songs(if you know what I mean.) The Lamb is also my favorite Genesis album.

It's a shame that Phil's solo output is going down the drain, though. His best 'current' songs are ending up on Disney soundtracks.

Thanks for this thread. I like solo Phil Collins.

I've been meaning to get my hands on the No Jacket Required album for a while. Might get it used, if I run across it.

Last thing I heard, after the current tour is over, the five-man lineup of Genesis(with Peter) might be getting back together and going on tour. I'm not sure how reliable that is, though.

They were planning on bringing Steve and Peter on board before, but since Peter is presently touring, they couldn't make it happen. sad

Phil Collins (with or without Genesis) is another of those artists that the hipsters love to hate.

face value, hello i must be going and no jacket required are his 3 best albums. there's really no way to tell a good phil collins song from a good genesis song (and vice versa) because the rest of the band is like non-existant (like lionel richie commodores songs).
Mama (genesis) is just as powerful as I don't care anymore (phil)... smile

People sometimes forget that Phil wasnt really Peter's replacement, Phil was in the band already at the time of Peter's departure. I also dont think Phil should be written off as just a lovesong writer type of guy, because he is far from it. Thats just the avenue the record company chose to focus on with Genesis and with Phil but you can find those long jams and complicated numbers on both his work with Genesis and Solo stuff. The issues in Genesis stemmed more from complications between Peter and Mike Rutherford than anything with Phil, this was far from "lets let Phil take over" type of move, Peter in my opinion is someone that cant really be in a group, at least not at that time, very similar to a Roger Waters, Peter just needed his own space to perform. It would be interesting to hear the full lineup again, though im sure it wont happen, im sure it will just turn into recording again without Peter, but so be it.

I would agree. Heck I'll take the 3-piece version doing a new album at this point. Same way I feel about The Police reunion.
I read recently that Mike R. stated there are no plans to record a new album. They're kinda seeing how things go and not planning too much ahead. There will be a new live DVD filmed on the new tour. Imagine that.
Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

'If Leaving Me Is Easy'.....

biggrin Man, that's a soulful ballad!!

The Isley Brothers thought so, too...they covered it on their 1985 album, Masterpiece ...

i thought i'd never see the day that ANYONE would be bigging up Genesis and Phil Collins.
i've tried to make music in a Genesis stylee before but I can't get that vibe like those guys did.
The albums suggested are great in my opinion.

I recently got the 3 cd set Platinum Collection. It's a good primer for the early stuff.
