Larry Carlton-Robben Ford Larry Carlton with special guest Robben Ford...
...LIVE IN TOKYO (Import version) This is a fine recording of a concert done toward the end of 2006. I've always thought that Robben Ford had an edgier version of the smooth singing guitar style Larry Carlton established in the early 70s. Come to find out that not only had they done gigs together around L.A., but LC recommended RF for the L.A. Express gig when he decided to leave due to other commitments. He also tutored him on the material prior to his exit. It was perfect timing for Robben to be in on the band's collaboration with Joni Mitchell on her... ...Miles of Aisles live recording. It's always a treat hearing Larry Carlton doing a project with another guitarist as it makes him step out of his comfort zone and stretch out a bit. Another example is when he teamed up with Steve Lukather for... ...No Substitutions: Live in Osaka Why is it that these pairings always occur in Japan? (rhetorical question) LIVE IN TOKYO w/Robben Ford, is filled with cool tunes from a competent band that includes Larry's son Travis on bass. It's also the first release on Larry's 335 record label. Nice to have another non-metallic dual-guitar album around. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. I heard Larry Carlton at Sambuca Jazz Club in Atlanta this past May....a stellar performance....
Thanks for the reminder....I keep meaning to purchase some of his stuff, and just never seem to get around to it....(my list of 'stuff to purchase' is verrrry long!!) "Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive."

There's such a demand over there, it's actually surprising that they even bother to do any gigs in the U.S. anymore ... If you check Larry Carlton's tour schedule (and i'm pretty sure this would apply with many skilled players), the bulk of their appearances are either in Asia or Europe. The closest he comes to L.A., so far this year, is San Diego and Sacramento. That certainly tells you something about the eL.A.me music market. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. I looked for this yesterday, but they didn't have it at Rasputin's. Robben's section is not usually well stocked in record stores (though I did see lots of Larry Carlton) My Legacy

Robben & Joni trade some nice licks on You Turn Me On I'm A Radio, even harmonizing for a sec.
He's always said he'd drop everything to join her band again. My Legacy
