I have Beyonce's Tribute on tape.
She was the best for that tribute. Perfect. She did an SPECTACULAR job. Yes, Tina is amazing. You know what's always struck me about Tina (and Diana Ross) I think both of them transcend the music they've made. It's sad, because sometimes I want to play a whole bunch of Great Tina stuff, and then after about 3 songs (usually Proud Mary, River Deep, Better Be Good to Me) the rest are just ...eh. They don't live up to Tina's energy or dynanism. I can't even fill up a tribute CD with *ace* stuff Same with Diana. Their images are so large (and their spirits so larger than life), but the catalog not quite reflective of their essence. Now with Beyonce, her songs are high octane and energetic and reflect the image she's trying to project -- too bad that image is largely copied. Beyonce totally jacks Tina's stage drama more and more with each new album, complete with facial expressions and hair tosses. And she's trying to sing 'rougher.' With these videos ...you can really see Tina's fire. She's truly one of the few great LIVE artists. She really brings it when she performs. Damnit. I was going to sleep. But now I'm gonna watch 'What's Love Got to Do With it." . . . [Edited 7/13/07 22:26pm]

She did do a good job at that tribute and showed much respect for Tina. Tina is a legend. Besides, she was my father's favorite artist/entertainer, when Tina was on tv, there was my dad right in front of the tv screen just loving him some Tina...oh by the way my mother understood..I mean it's not like he could have reached into the tv and grabbed Tina. Tina had her own original style, with a dynamic, onstage presence, she knew how to grab the audience's attention and make it her own. It seems Beyonce has definitely learned to do that as well from an artist/entertainer such as Tina Turner, and I have to say she is doing a good job at it. [Edited 7/14/07 7:05am]

I think Beyoncé was the suitable choice for this tribute.
Keep in mind, the performance is a TRIBUTE. It is a matter of the young, new, respectful, or even unitiated to pay respect to the greatness of one who has trailblazed or paved a way. I don't think a comparison is even necessary. The young lady came in and did a fine job in saluting her creative inspiration, as should be expected for her age and level of talent

The young lady came in and did a fine job in saluting her creative inspiration, as should be expected for her age and level of talent Actually, it's not a matter of whether it is "necessary" to compare. Let me explain..the reason I posted both clips is to show the comparison in both of their dynamic style and stage presence, and how they are able to captivate their audiences. In my book, Tina reigns since she's been in the business longer and I have watched her perform over the years, crossing racial lines during a time when it was almost impossible, especially when segregation reared its ugly head, but despite it all, Tina became a successful entertainer opening doors for artists like Beyonce to share her talent all over the world. Now that is my "personal" opinion, I can't speak for others here, if they wish to compare, then that's their choice. The point was to enjoy the clips of these two dynamic performers, and the title of the thread states "Tina and Beyonce" not "Tina vs Beyonce", however, they are both dynamic performers. There have been many artists that have followed in Tina's footsteps and she has opened the doors for many, as she is a role model for many artists like Beyonce to follow. Of course this is Beyonce's time now, as she is a young entertainer. as was Tina's time when she was younger, but it's been a lot easier for Beyonce to reach audiences across the world, since much has changed since Tina's time in the 60s. I found that Beyonce was definitely the best choice to give a performance tribute to Tina, and she basically mentions Tina as one of her idols. So with that being said and without further dalay... enjoy the next clip with Tina, again in her early years..... http://www.youtube.com/wa...3IW34hRZRQ [Edited 7/14/07 14:38pm]

I love Tina Turner and always thought that she was the best female enterainer ever; UNTIL last night. I saw Beyonce in concert and her stage presence, vocals, dance steps, musicianship blew Tina away. Beyonce can sing a ballad and go into a high octane dance number without missing a beat or losing her breath. The lady was just incredible and I respect her even more than I ever did. It's even more amazing that Beyonce is ONLY 25 years old. She has the charisma and stage presence of a veteran of 10 year or more. I am really proud of this young lady and believe that she has the talent to become a legend like Tina. She is that good.

I agree skyecute, Beyonce is an outstanding performer. They added another show for her concert at Madison Square Garden in NY next month due to high demand. But here's another clip of Tina. one of Beyonce's major influences...enjoy!
