Can Motown just retire itself already

Talk about the crash of a once great label, and this isnt even a comment on talent, this is about the MORONS that run the show, or claim to run the show. The recently signed MYA has had her cd pushed back for the 10th time over a 18 month period since its completition, this of course shatters the record of Stevie Wonders cd being shelved 9 times a few years ago. All of this goes on while Motown is releasing albums by TANK and Lloyd, with neither being shelved or really seeing any major sales. The worry about MYA is that it wont have a strong Week 1, which is all that matters in this day and age, but who are they kidding, MYA has never had big sales, never topping 1 million with any of her albums, so what BIG PAYDAY are they looking for? And if they were serious about doing something different, dont pair her with LAME people like Lil Wayne, enough of this RAP/RB collabos, that shit is played

Tank's record is doing well on radio.

Mya lost me when she released her my love is like woa in '03. Black Rob did Woa in 2000. By the time 03 came around I was like? Woa? That shit may have been hot in 01...Mya....she looks good. Maybe she should just do teen movies n shit to make her dough

they should drop all there acts and start signing good music like they had back in the day haha (i sound so old im only 18!)
they should get a group like the funkbrothers together and get a team of superb songwriters together and just start cutting some great hits again!

That's the sad part. They are merged- It's UniveralMotown now.

And they've been owned by MCA, Polygram and Universal for years.

They shot themselves in the foot when they abandoned that method of working and just became like any other label

I was thinking the same thing. Mya is exactly the type of "artist" they need to drop.

lol so true.Mya is irrelevent in the pop music world. There's a reason why none of her albums have reached platinum status. She's pretty and she can dance, but there's no substance in her music and she has no personality. There's nothing that makes her stand out.

MCA is no longer....There really is not a record label that stands alone.

We will see an eventual death of the industry as we knew it

yeah like beyonce's music has substance, and she is also lacking in the personality department also. It's just that her label is willing to push the shit out of her that is why she sells. If you listen to mya's album moodring she had a lot of different style and interesting thing going on.

The problem is she is different from the typical Rihannas and Ciara PUPPET like performers, painting by numbers RB shit. Her Moodring album is one of the most diverse things that ANY RB female has done this decade. She doesnt sell like Beyonce or have that Kind of fame, but who the hell does. The thing that sets MYA aside from the others is the fact that she is different, but the public doesnt want that, they want stuff thats typical and just like everyone else. And for the record, Mya has reached Platnum success, her first album sold 1.7 million her second 1.3 million and Moodring was gold. And lets not forget the fact that shes been doing this 10 years, thats 5 LIVES in todays RB/POP world.

There's only one person around here pedalling the bizarre notion that Mya is something special. lol You might as well address your question directly to them. No one else will be able to help you, lol.

You're hilarious lol Mya does the same type of boring,predictable,modern-day,disposable R&B crap that everyone else is doing. There's nothing unique, special or "different" about what she is doing.Ciara,Ashanti,Mya...they're all interchangable.Pretty faces but no substance whatsoever. They all follow the same, tired formula....have a rapper make a cameo on the singles,to give them "street credibility".....show alot of skin in the video.....do slick, choreographed dance moves....and so on and so on.

To be honest, their voices sound the same to me. I hear them on radio, and I'm like, 'yawn'. That wasn't the case back in the day with Aretha, Gladys, Chaka, Anita, etc.
