John Mayer Wins I had a choice of watching Interpol on Letterman, Silverchair on Leno or John Mayer on PBS.
After 10 seconds each of Interpol and Silverchair, John Mayer won. It was a 2005 Soundstage performance done in Chicago. He did some tunes with his band, a couple of acoustic solo numbers and capped it off by bringing on Chicago's own Buddy Guy. The boy was good. Now with that said, in the words of General Maximus... ...At my signal, unleash hell. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. I like John Mayer, but not his recorded stuff particularly....
LIVE, he is awesome: his true talent shines and he can tear it up.....most of his recordings I find too contrived, maybe because I know what he is capable of. does he have a live album? "Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive."

OK, forget contrived.....let's try it this way.....it is like he is holding back
I heard Wynton Marsalis a few months back, and felt the same way....I wanted to scream out "blow me outta here, man...let it go...." "Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive."

Maybe it's more that he knows how to stay in character based on what he's doing. Btw, i'll avoid the obvious opening for innuendo in your Wynton comment. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. I guess I prefer him "out of the box"..... And regarding the second comment.....you are just too, too kind to me. "Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. I loved his first album, "Room For Squares" and I really love the "Try" trio album, with Pino Palladino and Steve Jordan... I dig his guitar playing more than his singing, a little of which goes an extremely long way, IMO.... In the words of Zappa, "Shut Up and Play Yer Guitar", .... ... Go and check him out live! He's touring now. Calhoun, you should have made the trek to San Jose last month, it was worth it. He was really working the guitar that night, plus he was fresh off of getting rid of blondie. "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!

Believe me, I wanna see him But I can't stand the drive to San Jose, I think I've been spoiled lately b/c so many good shows I've seen have been right over the bridge & I live so close to it. He needs to bring his ass to SF | |

The last time he played in SF was about two years ago for a bunch of shows the week of NYE as the John Mayer Trio. I wanted to go then because he played smaller venues, but it was a show combined with a Grateful Dead member so I had this vision of being surrounded by post-hippies in a greater than usual amount of cloud of smoke. Is anyone watching Live from Abbey Road on Sundance Channel? I've tivo'd but not watched yet, he's on one of them. Nora Jones is on one, can't remember who else but I need to watch them already! Thanks for the reminder. I kept seeing the promos during Live Earth. Here's a link to the episode guide: http://www.sundancechanne...#/episodes The world's famous recording studio is the setting for this intimate music series featuring new and established performers. Created to suggest the visual quality of a movie and the carefully engineered sound of a commercial recording, LIVE FROM ABBEY ROAD captures artists like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Gnarls Barkley, Dr. John, Paul Simon and Wynton Marsalis without an audience as they rehearse, discuss and perform in the closed environment of a recording studio 3 artists are featured in each episode... John Mayer Richard Ashcroft Nora Jones (calling Threadbare) Snow Patrol Madeleine Peyroux The Zutons Shawn Colvin Nerina Pallot Natasha Bedingfield Iron Maiden Gipsy Kings Amos Lee Randy Crawford David Gilmour LeAnn Rimes Massive Attack Craig David James Morrison Dave Matthews Jamiroquai Damien Rice The Goo-Goo Dolls The Kooks Muse Kasabian Josh Groban The Good The Bad and The Queen Corrine Bailey Rae Primal Scream The Feeling The Killers tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. Very True, and I'm glad it got him here...I just want him to ease up on that part a bit now, but I definitely think he's making some nice moves, and his stints with Herbie Hancock (the album, and playing with the Headhunters at Boneroo-- This was before Lionel Loueke , of course) probably helped steer him towards a more mature audience...but he's got time.... ... It is sooooo not necessary for every thread to be disdained filled or comparisons to another white artist, or Prince, or anybody who was famous before the contemporaries were even conceived.
