In the song,she makes several references to "Xanadu".Is she referring to the movie which came out around the same time (late 1980)? Was "Behind The Groove" possibly written for the film? Was it rejected? What's the connection? Or is Teena talking about something different altogether? I don't know but The Jacksons also used the word "Xanadu" the same year in their song "Lovely One".
