Memories of Beastie's "Licensed to Ill"

first album I ever bought, and a gonzo classic!

I preferred the Beasties before maturity kicked in - when they had hydraulic cocks on the stage and VW symbols as medallions...

jeeeeesus it must be 20 years since this came out

Good Times!

top album. the beginning of the Fight For Your Right video is still pissingly funny. "Doo yoo like parteeees?" quality.

the new Beastie's album's a bit hit and miss. i mean, i'm all for the "let's be 'proper' musicians!" thing, i like seeing them playing, but the output just doesn't live up to the premise a lot. some of the tracks on their are truly shit. at least we still got some Money Mark keyboards in there.
Nose holes caked in black cocaine
No one holds a match to your skin
No dupe
No chiming
A way off miles off
No needle through a glove
Famine is a tall tower
A building left in the night
Jesse are you listening?
It casts its ruins in shadows

It's fun watching the Fight For Your Right video now that I know some people at the "party".

Did you guys hear Run-DMC's demo of "Slow And Low"? It was on the remastered edition of King Of Rock (1985).

I need to get that remastered edition!

I have great memories of this album. Our local R&B station in NC at the time played just about every song from License to Ill, and I recorded it on my Maxell tapes. lol By the time I actually bought the album - about five years ago - I knew every track.

Can no longer enjoy this record due to the annoying high pitch Ad rock vocals.

Much more impressed with Paul's Boutique.

Speaking of the Beasties.. They are sounding real washed up at Live Earth.

Plus the rhyme scheme of.... a + b =c ala I am known to do the whop, also known as the flinstone flop, is unorginal and boring and I find them doing it very often.

It irks me as much as 311 when they do the drum buildup from down in every single song. dah-dah, dah-dah, dah-dah.dah dah.

the only thing i could think of was the drums from "Rhymin And Stealin"
and the guitar on "She's Crafty"

i actually listened to it during my lunch hour today smile

Adrock's nasal-ass raps are the best thing about the Beastie Boys.
