Chaka Khan's new CD "Funk This" due September 25

The legendary Chaka Khan has completed her brand new studio album "Funk This",an incredible return to form that brings Chaka's funky sound full circle and back to the trailblazing days of her work with her former band,Rufus.Featuring guest performances from Mary J.Blige,Michael McDonald, and Rufus' Tony Maiden,"Funk This" will be released on September 25th by Sony BMG/Burgundy Records. The first two singles to be released simultaneously will be the gorgeous ballad "Angel",a song written by Chaka from an entry in her diary, and the raucous, uptempo "Disrespectful",a duet between Chaka and Mary."Funk This" was produced by the equally-iconic Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and features some of their finest work.

It sure does nod I'm thrilled that it's not a covers album.Too many of our Old School female R&B artists are releasing boring, predictable covers albums.Chaka is bringing the FUNK and delivering some new jams!

Normally,I'm skeptical when an album is promoted as "a return to form",or "a return to the funk",but I'm excited about this one.

Good news, but i was hoping it would be a covers album, to be honest boxed
There were some rumours about her doing some covers of songs made famous by other divas... That could have been really interesting

As much as I hate to dismiss this, its true.

And there WAS talk about this being a "cover" album too(Everybody from Phoebe Snow to Joni Mitchell to K D. Lang) untill the project was 'canceled'.

But I'm crossing my fingers for this here pray

Really? You want a covers album from her? I wanna hear Chaka singing NEW songs that I never heard before.I really enjoyed her 1998 album 'Come 2 My House' (mostly produced by Prince)....did you like that one?

You might partially get your wish...

The new album, produced by R&B superproducers Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis marks Khan's first full length studio effort (including new, unreleased compositions) in over ten years. With covers of tracks popularized by Prince ('Sign of the Times'), Dee Dee Warwick ('Foolish Fool'), Jimi Hendrix ('Castle in the Sand') and her former band Rufus ('You Got the Love'), 'Funk This' is well balanced with new and original compositions, most notably the poignant 'Angel,' which is an entry from her diary.

so,it is partly a covers album? confused I was hoping for all-new material, but oh well...I'm just glad to get a new Chaka CD.I hope she includes her recent cover of Earth Wind and Fire's "Shining Star"...that was cool!

based on the tracks that have been mentioned in articles,we can put together a partial tracklist:

"Funk This" (let's asssume there is a title track)
"Angel"
"Disrespectful" with Mary J.Blige
"Sign O The Times"
"Foolish Fool"
"You Got The Love"
"Castle In The Sand"
"Shining Star"
(yes,it already appears on the EW&F tribute album, but let's assume that Chaka will add it here too)

hmmm

There is no title track.....

Tracklisting will be:

1) Back in the day
2) Foolish Fool
3) One for all time
4) Angel
5) Will You Love Me
6) Castles Made of sand
7) Disrespectful (w/Mary J Blige)
8) Sign O The Times
9) Pack's my bags/You Got the love (w/Tony Maiden)
10)Ladies Man
11)You belong to me (w/Michael McDonald)
12)Hail to the wrong
13)Superlife

Shining star will not be included.

Sign O The Times is of course the Prince track. The first 3 minutes are a bit like the original, but then the mood changes and the song becomes a cross between Sign O The Times and Chaka's I'm every woman, very hypnotic.

Angel is one of the best songs Chaka has ever done. Sounds great on the radio too, beautiful ballad

Chaka's Back in a big way!
