nod Valid points.

I'm not gonna lie, there are some good show tunes....you don't wanna see me getting down to "Hair" redface "Tommy" has some gems too. smile

What I think you mean to say here, and correct me if I'm wrong razz , is that it's most MODERN Broadway musical music that sucks balls. nod

It doesn't get any more cheesy and homogenized than that IMO. barf disbelief

classic broadway musical music can be really complex and witty, and i think every great once in a while a great contemporary musical comes along too. i think what i hate most about musical theater is the way performers are trained to sing in those horribly affected voices. if there was affectation in the old timey days of broadway, it at least sounded pleasant and appropriate to the characterizations. nowadays, it sounds really forced and pretentious and theme-park-y. the worst was trying to sit through a performance of 'hedwig' with someone playing the lead using that "trained musical theater" voice...it was painful. PAINFUL. disbelief

REGGAETON!!! mad

While I am an admirer of all types of music, I fucking hate this genre. I thought it was just a passing fad that'll disappear in 5 years or less. But no, it's getting bigger and bigger.

What's the appeal about Reggaeton? It's just the same repetitive beat in every songs with some Spanish Hip-Hop that I can't understand or can't relate to. And the shit is not even real roots Reggae.

God, it's so irritating, especially when I have to hear the latinos blast it out their SUV's in my hood of Harlem (as well as Washington Heights). headache

I hate reggaeton too! mad Every song has the SAME DAMN BEAT!! That music is soooo freakin' annoying.

Yeah, especially at three in the f-n morning. You're trying to sleep and some no-class ghetto trash blasts it from his SUV, like NWF said. I'm on the ninth floor, yet my windows rattle from that sh!t.

You said it all with the word "theme-park-y". lol

And yes, I just think that everyone's voices as well as the music they are singing to sound the same. zzz It's all just so bland and unmemorable. (is "unmemorable" a word? confuse lol )

Exactly. You know, I try and be respectful of every genre, but it's very difficult to respect one where every songs has to have the same kind of beat. I understand that Reggaeton is derived from Jamaican Dancehall, but even they switched their beats every now and then. You could tell a Mad Cobra song from a Yellowman song, or a Sizzla song from a Shabba Ranks song. But with Reggaeton I can't tell the difference between any song.

me too. I don't actually like fifties rock n' roll that much, or the blues. I like a whole lot of music that came from it, though.

You read about how rock n' roll was the most exciting sound ever when it came out, it's kind of hard to relate.

i LOVE the "rockin' bones" rockabilly boxed set rhino put out a while back...it's a collection of the really skanky juvenille delinquent classics of the day - the music in this boxed set makes me feel dirty and depraved, and i love it! thumbs up!

Kenny G plays Soprano sax doesn't he? I think the "muzak" or MOR sax sound is very grating to me as well, but there's much more to the instrument than that, try Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Coleman Hawkins etc.

I was freaked out when I heard Kenny G speak once in an interview. All these years, I thought the bitch was mute.

That's how I feel about calypso. My parents played it seemingly nonstop when I was growing up. It's the one genre of music that you would never ever find in my collection.

Maybe polka too. hmmm
