Some old swing sounds pretty cool. Shit like Louis Jordans "jack your dead" is cool. Iam not sure if that is swing though?

I think the only styles of music that I dislike in their entirety are profanations of other styles e.g. Smooth Jazz to Jazz, or Disco to Funk. I think it's a waste of time to "hate" art: either it connects with you or it leaves you cold. I reserve "hatred" for things that represent something I dislike, e.g. the genres I listed above which represent enervating a style of music of its true character in the name of commercialism, or most of mainstream hip-hop and R&B which represents the relentless banality and fatuousness of the music industry.

nod That's by far my favorite musical. I sang "Sit Down You're Rockin' the Boat" in high school. I also love the 2001 revival and the movie.

I know I haven't heard every genre known to man, but all that I've heard , I don't hate with a passion. Some genres it's more of an indifference rather than sheer hatred. Certain artists I hate.....yeah, but entire genres, no. Different genres evoke different moods.....maybe I'm Sybil. lol wacky smile sad biggrin mad neutral smile

U sound very open minded then. I think its common that certain genres evoke different moods. Though this is general, I listen to maybe bit of classical if i want to relax, newjack if iam getting ready to go out (which takes about a minute), AOR if iam travelling for some reason? MOR if iam angry or upset (use to be the opposite, i use to hear NWA, Public enemy, Ministry, NIN if i needed to vent, I very rarely hear those acts anymore)

I never like horror films. Most i have seen are just boring in my view and whilst i dont mind cliche's in films, horror pics (or at least more modern examples of it), are just lame. Once you have seen a horror film, little point in seeing it again. Shit like the silent "nosferatu" are better then most horrors I have seen.

I'm with you. Romantic comedies are rarely romantic or comedic. There are exceptions, of course, but they're rare.

As far as entire genres of music? No. I like some of everything. I think it's tougher for me to find stuff in certain genres, like modern mainstream pop and hip-hop, but there's even stuff there I dig. My mom, my dad, my younger brother, my older brother, my friends and I all listened to different music, and it affected my tastes as a whole.

In what seems to be a neverending quest to call themselves anything but what they really are (Easy Listening), many of the current Smooth/Snooze jazz stations were originally New Age stations.

nod Prime example of this is the national satellite station formerly called The Wave. They went from innovative fusion and new age to boring Adult Contempoarary Lite Jazz Foramt feeling ill . What a tradgedy.

My 13 yr old daughter listens to all these. I hadn't detected anything to be offensive or garbage about them (I make absolutely no attempt to regulate waht my kids listen to), but she has no interest in hip-hop or stripper-pop. Happily, we've found common ground with Ben Harper. She's more into RHCP, while I'm more for Fishbone.

Wait, what's the difference between RHCP and Fishbone other than color and one being more commercially successful than the other? They've both been band buddies since their humble beginnings in L.A. To me they have the same sound.[/quote]

why is this quote all fucked up? :mad Anyway, here was my response to that: lol

Nah Fishbone's sound is way more out-there, experimental, and ska-based than RHCP I think.

I know that question wasn't directed at me, but I always have to butt-in you know. lol

REGGAETON!!! mad

While I am an admirer of all types of music, I fucking hate this genre. I thought it was just a passing fad that'll disappear in 5 years or less. But no, it's getting bigger and bigger.

What's the appeal about Reggaeton? It's just the same repetitive beat in every songs with some Spanish Hip-Hop that I can't understand or can't relate to. And the shit is not even real roots Reggae.

God, it's so irritating, especially when I have to hear the latinos blast it out their SUV's in my hood of Harlem (as well as Washington Heights). headache

I hate reggaeton too! mad Every song has the SAME DAMN BEAT!! That music is soooo freakin' annoying.
