BBC - The Seven Ages of Rock

Has anyone else been following this series of documentaries?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/musi...rogrammes/

Because I just watched the very last one (and missed all the rest I might add doh! ) about British indie music. It started out with The Smiths and so I settled in on the couch thinking, "Ooh this is going to be good! And I can't wait until they get to the Pulp section!"...

and I waited... neutral

and I waited... hmm

and I waited... confuse

and waited some more...until they totally passed them up and covered just about every OTHER band around! mad They spent a ton of time on the Stones Roses, Suede, Elastica, a ridiculous amount of time on the whole Blur vs. Oasis thing and went straight on to The Libertines and Franz Ferdinand! whofarted

NOT ONE mention of Pulp in the entire documentary! I'm just flabbergasted actually. Pulp started up in the late 70's for goddsake, were probably one of the hardest working and driven bands around for about 15 years before they finally became HUGE in the mid-90s.

I just can't get over it! lol

Ok, rant over. I just had to express my disbelief for a second. disbelief -----> disbelief

Like I always say, they're one of the most underrated bands of all-time IMO. Sad. sigh

I saw some of it but i was waiting for them to show
some New Wave stuff like blondie and the New Romantics
but they kinda missed that part. Its more about those
indie bands around the 90's and now, which i truely
dislike. Could have been better. neutral

Well, that particular episode was only about British indie rock/pop bands actually.

Blondie was possibly mentioned in this installment:

But yeah, there were some glaring omissions there. confused

i watched the first 2 episodes (well I missed the start of the first) the first one was about Jimi Hendrix, the second was about Pink Floyd, Genesis, etc. Good show, was hoping to follow it - but they did leave out a few bands alright

Yeah, I'm so upset that I didn't even know about it until the very last of the series. hrmph

Hopefully they'll broadcast it again.

Hey Minni, I do not know if you live in the UK, but a great art documentary series called "The South bank show" just did a special on Jarvis Cocker about 3-4 weeks ago. He was being interviewed and u saw live footage of him performing new material. Also, strangely, the programme had one of the walker brothers talking about Jarvis aswell.

Anyway, he seems like a cool bloke. One who is aware of perhaps his personal faults, but is humoures about them. He seems very articulate aswell in general. He did mention the whole Jackson/"earth song" thing, and how that propelled him into a superstar for a while, but he said he didn't like the fame the whole jackson thing caused him.

Good documentary.

The 7 ages of Rock was crap. The first two episodes about Blues Rock and Art Work weren't conceived very well. And they were both badly made rehashed edited versions on a much better music documentary series from the mid 1992 (also on BBC2) called Dancing In The Streets.
