Vinyl dig Over the weekend,I picked up some more vinyl albums:
***Tavares 'Love Storm' (1977)---I've been collecting all of their albums and this was the only one I didn't have.Glad to have finally found it.Contains the hit "Whodunit". ***The Whispers 'Imagination' (1980)---the big hit from this album is actually my least favorite Whispers song,"It's A Love Thing",a song that I find really annoying but I want to hear the rest of the album. ***The Whispers 'This Kinda Lovin' (1981)---This album has always been a mystery to me.I remember hearing the excellent title track on the radio back in 1981,but I never heard anything else from the album. It disappeared without a trace and got hardly any promotion Finally,I can hear the "forgotten" Whispers album. ***The Whispers 'Love Is Where You Find It' (1982)---This is the Whispers best album, imo. It's filled with strong hit singles ("In The Raw","Say Yes",the title track,etc).....there's not a bad song in the bunch. ***The Whispers 'Love For Love' (1983)---another strong Whispers album, this one contains "Tonight","Keep On Lovin Me" and the underrated ballad "This Time".Looking at the lyric sheet,I discovered that Jerry Knight wrote and composed the first single "Tonight" Never knew that before. Several weeks ago,I was in Atlanta and went on a vinyl dig there. The name of the record store is EarWax Records, where I was able to find some rare, hard to find disco records: ***'Carrie Lucas In Danceland' (1979)---Contains the hot disco single "Dance With You",a song I never get tired of hearing. ***Gloria Gaynor 'Love Tracks' (1978)---Forget "I Will Survive",the real gem on this album is the follow-up single "Anybody Wanna Party?" This jam finds Gloria in a much more funkier setting. ***Gonzalez 'Haven't Stopped Dancing Yet' (1978)---I'm only familiar with the title track but I always wanted to see if they had any other hot jams. ***Santa Esmeralda starring Leroy Gomez 'Don't Let Me Be Misunderstoood' (1977)---One thing I've always liked about disco albums is the way one song could take up an entire side of the record In the disco era, there sometimes was no need to buy the 12 inch because in many cases, the extended version was already right there,on the album. ***GQ 'Face To Face' (1981)---I was most excited about finding this record.GQ is one of my favs and I always wanted to hear this album.Contains the catchy,hard-to-resist first single "Shake".It's a shame that they were basically ignored in the early 80s,when "disco" suddenly became a bad word

Didn't realize Tower Records had been around that long.

I bought this like a year ago but I don't remember spinning it that much. Guess I should take it out and spin it again It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

I've got to do another vinyl dig soon. "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

"Up On Soul Train" (the Soul Train theme song before O'Bryan did one) is my favorite from this album. ***The Whispers 'Love Is Where You Find It' (1982)---This is the Whispers best album, imo. It's filled with strong hit singles ("In The Raw","Say Yes",the title track,etc).....there's not a bad song in the bunch.
My favorites from this one are "In The Raw" and "Emergency".
I never bought this album but I do have the 45 "Tonight". Kool and the Gang also had a song out called "Tonight" that same year. ***Gloria Gaynor 'Love Tracks' (1978)---Forget "I Will Survive",the real gem on this album is the follow-up single "Anybody Wanna Party?" This jam finds Gloria in a much more funkier setting.
I bought this album strictly for the ass-shaker "Anybody Wanna Party". I haven't really listened to much else on the album. Andy is a four letter word.

Their approach to ballads can't be touched by many. [Edited 7/17/07 12:43pm]
