It should lose Gone Too Soon. And I agree about Childhood, but it needs to lose a few of the "i'm a badass" and "everyone's always picking on me" songs as well before it's a classic. Dirty Mind Controversy 1999 Purple Rain Around The World In A Day Parade Sign 'O' The Times Lovesexy All great! I agree, that was an INCREDIBLE run of great albums for any artist. Careerwise, I think Prince has had the greatest creative run overall. perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

Stevie Wonder: Music of my Mind, Talking Book, Innervisions, Fulfillingness' First Finale and Songs in the Key of Life. This is in terms of groundbreaking, songwriting, musically and just all round god darn funky and moving tracks! Any advances? IMO, this is the best, for the reasons you stated. As much as I like Prince, his 80's creative streak was a notch below Stevie's

Still, I have a hard time acknowledging an album as excellent or great when I have to skip a track 100% of the time (as is the case with "Revolution 9" in particular). It also blows my mind that there are so many people who would proclaim Revolver as one of the greatest albums of all time (and even the greatest) when it has such a lackluster song like "Yellow Submarine" on it. [Edited 7/4/07 14:11pm] I like Yellow Submarine. Sure, it is far from the Beatles best, but it is a great children's song. I can't hate on a song that introduced me to the Beatles. I can! Hate, hate, hate! I also hate "Can't Buy Me Love." Still can't believe it kept their great cover of "Twist and Shout" from reaching #1... Human Touch Lucky Town The Ghost of Tom Joad The Rising hmm, that's not really the sequence of 5 i'd expect. more like his first 8, really, though i did like Human Touch and Lucky Town. haven't heard the last 2 yet. I know...I know...Born to Run/Darkness/River/Nebraska/U.S.A., right? I'm not much of a fan of the romanticism of the earlier records (although I love "The Promised Land", "Darkness" and "Be True" - and, yes, I know "Be True" was a B-side). Honorary mention to "Backstreets". I briefly considered Nebraska/U.S.A./Tunnel/HT/LT, but I think he just continues to mature as a writer and I couldn't omit Joad (just 'cause the title track lays waste to that romanticism in one fell swoop: "The highway is alive, tonight / But nobody's kiddin' nobody about where it goes". And "Galveston Bay" is such a great piece of writing) or The Rising's "Nothing Man", "Mary's Place", "You're Missing" or "Paradise".

With both those cats, if you lined up those albums against a wall in chronological order, you could almost throw a dart and whichever album it hit count 5 albums forward or backwards and make an argument. Glad to see someone else is with me. None of the runs I've seen listed save for Stevie's match up, IMHO. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016
