When Napster came out. Also, for some reason, record companies weren't as quick to adopt the MP3 format like they did when they switched from vinyl and cassettes to compact disc. The record company did it to itself. They underestimated a lot of what was going on and were sleeping on a revolution. My first ever MP3 download was Green Day's "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" back in 1998. I remember the sound quality blew me away at the time -- getting a full, near-CD quality song on your computer. For my people who remember .wav files and only having 30 or 60 seconds of crunchy sound you could definitely feel the difference. The record companies didn't know what was coming. THEY SLEPT BIG TIME. ... [Edited 7/4/07 23:25pm]

Whereas in years gone by we had no choice but to pay at the wrecka stow, now theres many ways of getting music cheaper or for free.

I guess what you are saying from a consumer's perspective is nice and all, but what about the artists that strive for greatness and in excelling with their will of ambition.

I mean, I don't mean to judge (Hell, for some odd reason, I am attracted to that fiestiness of hers), but she is a firecracker! "Gnarls Barkley" are great. I guess you are right.
