Frankie Knuckles - all day any day.
I was so bummed to miss him for his annual 4th of July party here in Chicago last night. I love his music choices, his passion, his crowds. It's always such a spiritual experience when I hear him play. He brings so much energy and soul with his music. He's also a survivor, a living legend. So many have come and gone...Ron Hardy, Larry Levan, but Frankie is still putting it down. perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

bOYS NOIZe This guy is my favorite DJ @ the mo. I've seen him live when he came thru New York with Institubes (Para One, TTC, SoFresh Squad) and the guy was DOIN' IT on the turntables. I first caught whiff of him when I heard his rework of Kaiser Chiefs' "Everyday I Love You Less and Less." The thing that stood out about him was that his beats were hard and they weren't house beats, they were hard techno beats that had a particular krak to it. The guys remixes got a flavor. You can just krak your neck to it, do the snap rock with it. I love the crunchiness of his sound. It's muscular and dark, but very danceable. BNR was mixing some dub called "This is Michael Jackson," threw in some Technotronic and then killed a remix of Depeche Mode's Personal Jesus. I mean, he is just DOPE. I'm looking forward to checking out his debut LP "Oi Oi oi" in September. Check out his tracks, plus the REMIX MEDLEY VOL. 1 with all the tunes I mentioned in his myspace player. BTW, my fave remixes by BNR (examples of his work): Living Things / Bom Bom Bom (Boys Noize Remix) (2005) [in my org profile] Depeche Mode / Personal Jesus (Boys Noize Rework) Feist / My Moon My Man (Boys Noize Remix) (2007) Kaiser Chiefs / Everyday I Love You Less and Less ... Abdul said: My favorite DJ is a cat named G-Force who spins on our old school station here in Philly, 105.3 WDAS FM from 8PM to 2AM every Saturday Night.
I like how he doesn't just play the hit old school records but he digs in the crates and plays TONS! of album cuts from my favorite funk artists, and he always stays in the groove, whatever he mixes it always makes sense. Ya'll should check him out next Saturday online at 105.3 WDASFM.COM, G-Force is always on point. I hear ya. Growing up in Mississippi, I never really had any exposure to DJs that were known nationally so my influences have all been local DJs. There were some great radio personalities but my favorites were the DJs in the skating rinks who mixed (finds a breakdown in a song and blends in another song by matching the beats, overlapping the songs, and blending the other song in). The only DJ I can think of that I used to love that people on the org would have heard of is Steve "Silk" Hurley who used to do the "Old School Breakfast Mix" on the nationally broadcast "Tom Joyner Morning Show". He was absolutely great until he started mixing "the old with the new". I don't do new shit.....period. Andy is a four letter word.

DJ Spooky is a nice pick. Don't know a lot about any of the "club DJs" When I think of a DJ, radio folks come to mind. Hal Jackson, Frankie Crocker, Murray the K, Cousin Brucie & The Good Guys are a few that were on AM radio in NYC. And the pioneering FM (WOR-FM & WNEW-FM) Free Form DJs like Murray the K, Rosko, Scott Muni, Allison Steele 1966 WOR-FM soundcheck tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn.
