BAD 20 I'm still working on the 1999 thread. Anyone with ANY info orgnote me PLEASE!
BAD 20 How in the world can you follow up Thriller?! From 1983 to early 1985, Michael Jackson was everywhere! In December, after the end of the controversial Victory Tour, Michael worked on the USA For Africa "We Are The World" LP That same time, work on the follow up began, but by this time, the backlash had just started. Rock critics couldn't catergorize Michael and didn't know where he was coming from as an artist and soul critics felt he was abandoning his roots. At this time, the then 26 year old began to submit to the pressure and distance himself as health problems and stress(personal and professional) began to get to him, but it didn't stop him from working. He had several projects: the Scared of the Moon project, a Broadway play titled "Street Dandy", and the "Michael's Pets" toyline Then the follow up. Always the follow up Quincy took a break from the project to take care of his health and Michael went to work with George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola on the Disney film "Captain EO" In the fall, the Dream Team resumed work, but with obstacles: the title track "Bad" was originally written as a duet with longtime rival/associate Prince, but the meeting didn't go anywhere. The planned song with Run DMC didn't work out, and the break the two took had the album behind schedule. Because of the wealth of material he had written and recorded, Michael wanted the album to be a double LP but Quincy intervened, feeling it would be a better idea to cipher it to a single LP. The album was originally supposed to be released in January 1987 but was pushed back. Walter Yetnikoff also didn't like the cover, citing it as too feminemine. It was also announced that Michael was gonna launch a world tour for the album Doubts about the album's release started to rise but in June 1987, the first single, "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" was released, debuting at #37 on the Billboard Hot 100, but rose to #1 seven weeks later. The album was titled "Bad". The album was promoted heavily with a 4 and a half minute commercial titled "Bad is Coming" chronicling his life up until 1987. On August 31, 1987, CBS aired the 30 minute primetime special "The Magic Returns" that also world premiere of the title track's 18 minute short film that was directed by legendary director Martin Scorsese. The title track would be the second single from the album [IMG]http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s278/jay8wonder/bad/055.jpg[/IMG Reviews for the album was mixed. Although Rolling Stone's year end poll voted it "Worst Album", the magazine gave it 4 out of 5 stars. The albume debuted at #1 and stayed on the top for 6 weeks and stayed in the top 10 for 39 weeks. Debuted #3 on the R&B charts but went to #1 the following week and stayed there for 18 weeks, being in the top 10 for 38 weeks. Also debuted at #1 in the UK for 5 weeks and stayed in the top 10 for 38 weeks and spent 70 weeks in the top 30 until 1992. The album launched a highly successful world tour and reached 5 continents and over 10 countries, spawning 123 dates to nearly 5 million concertgoers, including 14 sold out dates in Japan during it's first leg and 9 sold out shows in Japan's Tokyo Dome during its second leg and a record 8 sold out shows at London's Wembley Stadium, and 5 sold out shows in Los Angeles' Sports Arena September 1987 The album won 2 American Music Awards, 2 Grammy Awards, 6 Billboard Awards, 3 NAACP Awards, and 5 Soul Train Awards 1987 Sweden Best Vocal Artist of 1987 - "Aftanbladet" Readers' Poll Bravo Magazine Silver Otto Award ----- 1988 New York Times Best Seller List # 1 Best Seller - "Moonwalker", Autobiography by Michael Jackson Soul Train R&B Album Of The Year - Bad Best Male Single Of The Year United Negro College Fund (UNCF) Frederick D. You were born in 1987 too! Like me
I was looking at those pictures too, I've always thought because the blotches got worse(Karen Faye was a TERRIBLE makeup artist!) Look at that picture of him with the black shirt with the skin blotches. Anyway, I don't wanna get too scandalous so I'll leave at that Anyway, the next part will be " I Just Can't Stop Loving You" Here is the original commerical "Bad is Coming" that aired in mid 1987: http://www.jetzi-mjvideo....ads17.html "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. Bad 20 Part 2- I Just Can't Stop Loving You
I JUST CAN'T STOP LOVING YOU written by Michael Jackson Recorded in 1987 with Quincy Jones protege Siedah Garrett after Whitney Houston and Barbra Streisand turned the song down. Siedah didn't even know Quincy wanted her to do the duet until she came to the actual recording session. The spoken intro was recorded while Michael was laying in the bed. It was later edited from later pressings from the album and compilations. The lead single from Bad. Released in June 1987, went to #1 on the Hot 100 and the R&B charts, making it the 3rd best selling single of 1987. It also peaked at #1 in the UK for 2 weeks. Many fans believe that "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" was the song that replaced "Fly Away" Performed live with Sheryl Crow on the 1987-89 Bad World Tour and the 1992-93 Dangerous World Tour. That beats me too! But what really irks me is that the U.S sales of the Bad album are currently in dispute, as it appears it's sold considerably more than what has been certified. Check out its certifications: Australia 5x Platinum 350,000 Brazil Diamond 1,100,000 Canada 7x Platinum 700,000 France Diamond 1,400,000 Germany 4x Platinum 2,000,000 Japan Diamond 1,000,000 Spain 7x Platinum 500,000 UK 13x Platinum 3,900,000 USA 8x Platinum 8,000,000 Check me out and add me on:
