Oz Noy - Ha! Israeli-born guitarist Oz Noy is a progressive and iconoclastic artist who incorporates a wide array of styles into his own work, including funk, rock, blues, and jazz. Having performed from a young age, Noy was an in-demand studio musician by his early twenties. A move to New York City in 1996 eventually led to tours and session work with such artists as Chris Botti, Toni Braxton, Jeff "Tain" Watts, and others. Noy released his own album Ha! in 2005, followed by the live album Oz Live a year later. Oz Noy is a rock guitarist who has a strong sense of humor and the creativity to come up with a wide variety of tonal distortions. His original struts throughout Ha! are consistently colorful and often witty. Of particular notice is "Hey You," which purposely sounds like a broken record and his interpretation of a pair of blues: "Blue Monk" and "Hit Me." Oz Noy can also play quite mellow, as he shows on "I Can't Make You Love Me," but he has the most fun on the more outlandish rock and fusion grooves. Fellow guitarist Mike Stern has a guest appearance on "Downside Up" and sometimes the rhythm section utilizes both Anton Fig and Keith Carlock on drums, but Oz Noy is the main star throughout this enjoyable and eccentric outing. www.allmusic.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Oz Noy is part of that Mike Stern/Wayne Krantz NYC guitar clique. To solidify this allegiance, Mike Stern plays on the album and Jim Beard will appear on the upcoming one. You hear traces of Stern/Krantz/Frisell/Hendrix mixed with a great deal of Oz Noy's own unique sounds. I'd seen the "name" around but thought it was just some here today gone tomorrow MTV band. Shame on me. A welcome addition to the forward-thinking guitar club. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. I'm diggin' the explosion at two minute mark in "Chillin"--is that Keith Carlock or Fig on the drums there? definitely some Krantz-like interplay going on... ... " I've got six things on my mind --you're no longer one of them." - Paddy McAloon, Prefab Sprout | |

If I had to guess i'd say Carlock as i've never heard Anton play anything like that before. I'm currently stuck on Say What?!. I like the way he shifts guitar sounds between the JB boogaloo scratch section and the underwater B-3 swing section. Some of the crisp wah-work during the solo reminds me of some of the things Wayne Krantz did with his solo on Donald Fagen's Brite Nitegown He's a tricky writer. On What Love Is you get the false sense of security that you're settling in to a nice ballad and then the abrupt left turn when you least expect it. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn.
