"The Captain And Tennille"?

Yup...Anyone over 30 probably will remember that "Do That To Me One More Time" was a HUGE hit back then. Pop, R&B, and even Country radio played (and overplayed) that song to death. I even remember an episode of Toni Tennille's show where (pre accident) Teddy Pendergrass was a co host and sang with her.

I was surprised by the great reaction they got when they did the last song. I think they were playing live also.

I'm so glad Don is letting these old episodes play. I could care less if the "current" Train comes back.

Abdul

It was just an okay episode. I can't understand why Don would play episodes from the same parts of a particular season, where they play the same songs back to back weeks. At least let it be an episode where the guest have better jams, nothing against C&T and The Ritchie Family but C'MON!! Where's those episodes with Bootsy, Cameo, Barkays, Gap Band, etc.....

Yeah, I know they were big. It's just odd that with all the episodes they have to pick from to play, it's the Captain & Tennille one that they went with. lol

I'm very surprised episodes of the Jackson 5, James Brown, Temptations, Earth Wind and Fire and the big artist from back in the day haven't been played.

Al Green, Barry White and Rick James I believe have been the biggest artist played so far in this Best of Soul Train thats been airing since December of 06.

I think that the guy in the center, the one who said that his specialty was the Robot, did a similiar shake dance towards the end of the "Beat It" video.

I knew I had seen that guy somewhere. but wow that was years later and he still looked the same. I agree with abdul. the shows have been average and it is good to see artists you didn't know had the chance to perform but gosh hook us up don!

I thought it was a good show. However, the only disappointing thing was, it was the very next episode that originally aired after the week before's episode. That meant a lot of the same songs were played in both episodes.

Here are the next two weeks:

WGN Sat, Jun 30
2:00 PM Best of
Jermaine Jackson sings "Let's Get Serious," and the Dramatics perform "Welcome Back Home."

WGN Sat, Jul 7
2:00 PM Best of
Tyrone Davis sings "How Sweet It Is" and Teena Marie performs "I Need Your Lovin'."

Both of these sound pretty good.

It was called the glide or the back slide back then. Michael Jackson stole it years later.

If you notice, last week and the week before were back to back episodes like when they originally aired. If you also notice, WGN Channel 9, had a ballgame on both weeks and people either had to catch "Soul Train" on WGN on Sunday night at 3:30 a.m. or on their local channel that airs it.

I think most people, like myself, watch the show on WGN when it comes on Saturday morning/afternoon rather than late at night. I bet Don just picked something real quick for the two weeks that the ballgame took that time slot because a lot of people would miss the episode.

I'll say it again WGN....if you must air a ballgame, leave "Soul Train" alone and take off that "American Idol" bullshit! lol
