Alice Russell - English neo-soul, electronic funk, gospel, jazz!

There's really some amazing stuff happening in England recently:

Alice Russell

Check out 'A Fly in the Hand' especially. Great mid-tempo electro-funk jam with passionate vocals. Here's a fairly long snippet: http://www.tunes.co.uk/tu...11334.html

And in spite of her voice, she looks like this:

I'm English but I'd never heard of her.

That's an amazing voice. She sounds like a slightly smoother Carleen Anderson. She also has this Dusty Springfield-esque breathlessness which I like a lot.

I think I'll have to get some of those albums. Judging from the samples I don't think I'd dig everything as much as 'A Fly in the Hand' but it seems interesting enough. She has a live DVD out as well.

I love the soul/acidjazz scene in the UK. I always feel like they are 10 steps ahead of the US in this department. But Justin says he's never heard of her so maybe I'm wrong lol But it sure feels that way when I stumble upon UK releases of this kind mushy
