Who's better at Stevie Ray-ish Style of Git . Playing ? Jonny Lang,John Mayer,Joe Bonamasa or Kenny Wayne???? All of these guys play in the Stevie Ray Vaughan type and style that he always had a way of performing on the guitar . They all have that ability of playing with that same flavor . My fave , though , is Joe because he does it , but he doesn't feel the need to copy SRV ! I do like and have always liked Jonny Lang , too , though .

but stevie ray vaughn wasnt playing in jimi hendrix style no matter how hard he tried.
in my opinion prince's phrasing style is closer to jimi then stevie ray ever was.

I don't hate Mayer's playing or anything . It's just that you see and hear him everywhere , and he gets a lot more attention than the others do . Like Jonny really gets down on his ax when he plays . And they all have that same bluesy cool style of playing . And yet you see and hear Mayer more often . It just doesn't seem fair to me , you know what I mean ????

Hey , the banished one , remember , I didn't say that I hated Mayer's way and style . I actually think that he's pretty damn good on the guitar too . But I just think that everyone should remember that he is not the ONLY one who plays guitar in that style that well , you know ???? I mean besides my question , I just wanna say that SRV was like one of my all-time faves , along with Clapton , PRINCE (esp.) , Santana , and Jimi !!!! They are one of the reasons that I decided to play git. in the first place . But these are new guys , and the media shows favor to Mayer more . That is all I meant . You don't think the other git players in this kind of style should get credit , too ???? Just wonderin' ????!!!!

I was Out of town for a bit . Did get to see Crossroads . EXCELLENT!!!! If thebanishedone sees this , just wanted to let you know . He's very good . You know who ! I was just wonderin' what comment was supposed to mean about Clapton being " hit or miss " ???? Were you cutting down a legend ? He's great ! Are you serious . Come on , admit it . He's cool .

hit and miss means clapton can be great (see my father eyes from one more car one more raider dvd) but most of the time he is on autopilot.
his playing is sterille, its not real blues. he was great with cream and derek and the dominoes(check why does love got to be so sad live at fillmore)

So I see what you mean about Clapton . But he's one of those intense , keep your mouth closed , quiet , not so expressionable on his face , kind of players , if you know what I mean . I mean he is not like , let's say Santana , or esp. not like " MAYER " ! But then again maybe since you're such a " HUGE " fan of Mayer's , maybe you've just gotten way too use to seeing Mayer's WAY overly distorted facial expressions , that you have now come to expect that from all guitar players . Even the great ones ! He , He , He , LOL !!!! No , I KID YOU . No , but seriously , I knew what you meant . But he is still pretty cool to me . But I'll be honest . He is not as close to my heart , kind of favorite as SRV !!!! Also , Santana , and especially PRINCE ! He is so not as appreciated enough , at least to me he is not , as a GUITAR player . ESP. funk ! He is so bad a** as a funk git player . He sooooo moves me when I watch him !!!! But as far as expression on gits goes , that is what I mean about Lang and Kenny Wayne too , esp. Jonny though . I mean they are very expressionable and passionate on their gits too !

theAudience said: ...Albert King & Jimi Hendrix come to mind. tA Tribal Disorder We can it right there, actually... What it is, tA!!! I think John Mayer gets it, though KWS is a close second, IMO. JM's phrasing and tone are textbook SRV, most of the time. Though his touring with Clapton rubbed off in a major way, on his last album. http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431

Mayer is a horribly overrated guitarist.

THANK YOU chuckaducci !!!! FINALLY !!!! Someone says something honest about the " OH-SO-GREAT and SACRED " MAYER ! I mean I don't hate him . I even play his songs . And it's not that I think that he is HORRIBLY over-rated ! But you know , I mean , come on . Some people act as if he was the very first and only guy to ever pick up the guitar , just simply because he is a media FAVORITE !!!! Now , don't misunderstand what I am saying here . AGAIN , I DO think that he is a very very good player . BUT , he is NOT the ONLY one to ever play the instrument , if you know what I mean !!!!

GUITARGIRL YOU MISSED THE POINT.
NOBODY SAID THAT JOHN MAYER IS THE BEST GUITAR PLAYER EVER. BUT,HE REALY IS MUCH BETTER THEN PEOPLE ARE AWARE OF THAT FACT. ON CROSSROADS FESTIVAL EVEN GUITAR GODS STEVE VAI AND ERIC JOHNSON DIDN'T PLAY SO GREAT BY THEIR STANDARD OF COURSE. JOHN PLAYED WITH SUCH AUTHORITY THAT IT WAS SCARY. HE TOOK THE BEST FROM JIMI HENDRIX AND STEVIE RAY VAUGHN AND COMBINED IT. HIS LICKS ARE RHYTMICAL,COMPLICATE AND BLUESY. ON THAT FESTIVAL HE AND ROBERT RANDOLPH BROUGHT THE BEST PEFORMANCE. P.S.-SORRY FOR THE CAPS LOCK,I HAVE A COMPUTER PROBLEM,IF I TURN CAPS DOWN I WONT BE ABLE TO WRITE.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Hey , got a day off , AND got to read what you said , thebanishedone . Oh , and caps locked prob. understood . Oh , I know that no one is saying he is the best ever , and this isn't some kind of Mayer slamming that I am trying to do or to say . But I saw the Crossroads thing as well . I thought he was very cool , too . But did you see , or were you watching the same thing that I was , because I wonder ? And what I mean by that is that the gushing on that your doing of what he played just seems a teeeeensy bit much . But , that is just my opinion . But you're definitely right about Randolph ! That is so cool how he plays that pedal guitar ! I would love to play that too , actually ! I just might . Oh , and just loved ZZ Top's performance , as well . Santana - Fab. !!!! Oh , and everybody has their off days , even Mayer . I refer to your Vai comment . Believe me , I have witnessed this , not in person , but on T.V. ! If you DARE question me , I'll get back with a reply , and Maaaaaybe explain , on Tuesday . Gotta go .
