Since every label seems to link their new and upcoming artist with a older established performer, I might as well join in.

Has anyone heard the new Donnie album - The Daily News? I've listened to it a few times now and it sounds great to me. Good sound, nice songwriting and a great voice, it reminds me of Stevie Wonder. And as a bonus he uses the Parliament/Funkadelic frase "extra, extra, read all about it" (The undisco kidd).

Where can I listen 2 him?

Bought it the day it was released, and have listened to it multiple times since. Not much happy subject matter, but his voice, the music and the melodies all make up for it. He's made back to back outstanding albums.

Thanks for mentioning this one. I just read the write up on allmusic, and will give it a listen. Sounds heavy!

hey, maybe call him something else other than the "new Stevie." i'm glad he's solid with his, (i still haven't heard ANY of his stuff and if he's THAT good, even with radio and the industry sucking like they do, there should be SOME buzz) but i have a 70 song stevie box set that STILL doen'st have ALL of his "hits" so this comparison, though probably a stylistic one as opposed to career wise, still bothers me.

@ calhoun: Yes, it's his second album, I was surprised, I haven't heard about him before. I guess it's good news, there's still another album for me to check out!

@ Ripher & Vasthi: It's a good thing I don't usually listen to lyrics. The music sounds fresh and happy to me!

@ datdude $ Icke4: Yeah, it bothers me too, especially when it's phrased like I did: 'the new (insert name of legend)'. On the other hand, he does sound a bit like him and it did get my attention. Next time I'll say, 'Has anyone heard about this guy that sounds like Engelbert Humperdink?'

Listening so far, it's really good. I'll have to sit with it awhile to really get a good feel. The musicians are really playing some funky riffs on this record. I hear the stevie & donnie comparison, but there's always been a STRONG gospel influence in his music, just listen to the harmonies. that's straight up barbershop/after the preacher/before the offering steez. I love his subject matter. Sometimes it's refreshing to hear issues brought back to the forefront of the music.

I REALLY loved his first record too

I liked some stuff off the first album but I don't remember anything sticking to me, I probably need to revisit it...

I still remember the song "Cloud 9" being really nice, but I haven't pulled that thing out in the longest. I need to get it in my ITunes, that or the car is the only way I listen to the majority of my stuff these days
