As for the no bass part, many bands I like have no bass so that isn't a deal-breaker for me:

Yeah Yeah Yeah's
Giant Drag
Jucifer
The Kills

Does anyone remember when the guy from Red Kross placed the White Blood Cells album online with bass parts he added himself?

Busting out Red Kross?
cool

To answer the question, eek NO! I need a copy of that!

That was a loooong time ago. I never heard them myself, but the idea sounds very cool.

Or how about the Doors?

I wouldn't mind some bass personally, but it's fine without it. What's funny is he played bass on a song on Beck's album Guero. How about some on your own damn album?!! lol

The Doors? I know there is no official bassist in the band, but is there bass on their albums? I should know this. Gotta play some Doors tracks when I get home.

There may be on a couple tracks, but Ray played most of it on keyboards. Jack does it on guitar, like the Beatles did on Two Of Us

I wouldn't mind some bass, but I only occasionaly find it's lacking in the W.S. records.

Cool.

I got Icky Thump this week. While listening to the first three tracks, I thought Jack White was god. Then it trailed off a little and now I think he's just great. smile

I also picked up Nick Cave's Grinderman project which is cool too. I like it much more than regular Nick Cave which I find to be a little grating after awhile.

Grinderman, White Stripes--I'm all set for the tour next month.

I think Icky Thump definitely starts stronger than it finishes

I missed the WS last tour. I'd like to see that lineup. I've really only heard Let Love In, but that album has stuck with me despite not having heard it for years.

I only have The Best of Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds. I have a lot of friends that like Nick Cave, but I just don't find his voice appealing at all. His duets with PJ Harvey and Kylie Minogue are nice since their vocals temper his a little. On Grinderman his voice is a little more snarl-y which I think works for the more rough and dirty sound of the album.

confused You know it will take me at least 3 damn months to even muster enough thoughts to write what passes for a review.

I really don't see their appeal at all confused ;

mediocre guitar playing , mediocre drumming
mediocre compositions and no BASS

Write an emoticon review. List each song and put an appropriate emoticon after it that describes how you feel about it. smile

Although that might take even longer than a written review for you knowing how much of those things you have stored.

Except for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs they are all pretty small. Listen to some tracks on their myspace pages:

Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Giant Drag
Jucifer
The Kills

I forgot all about this thread. Those bands all have women on vocals since that's my thing.

Great reviews on metacritic: http://www.metacritic.com.../ickythump

Since I'll be seeing them live next month, I have to get the album. I also have to pick up Nick Cave's Grinderman since they will be opening. Sounds like a really good bill.
Nick Cave? omfg

Sounds like a great show.
