"Big Calm" & "Charango" appreciation thread

Just wanted 2 say how much i love Morcheeba's "Big Calm" & "Charango". I've been a Morcheeba fan since 1998 & i also consider "Who Can You Trust?" as some kind of a masterpiece. "Fragments Of Freedom" & "The Antidote" r ok but much weaker albums IMO.

Actually, "Big Calm" might b Morcheeba's greatest album because
1) it really IS what the title says, an incredibly peaceful & beautiful collection of songs, an album with a very, very rare (if not unique) spirit & particular feeling.
2) it's one of these few albums that were really released at the perfect time, as if they were intended 2 express a generation's feelings or 2 answer this generation's needs. Back in 1998, "Big Calm" was sort of the perfect response 2 what Tricky called the "pre-millenium tension" & it was making people feel better in this increasingly faster & urban world we live in, full of fears about the future. 4 different reasons i think albums such as Bjork's "Debut" & Portishead's "Dummy" were these kind of albums: they corresponded exactly 2 their time of release's atmosphere & that's why theses 3 albums were all enormous successes with young people.

Now "Charango." This one was unpopular with all the people who had decided Morcheeba was dead after the release of "Fragments Of Freedom" but i think it's kind of the quartet's maturity album. It has both the wet darkness that made "Who Can You trust?" an hypnotic & fascinating album" & the serenity that made "Big Calm" a perfect album. The songs r intellingent compositions with great lyrics & there's an atmosphere of, how 2 say... as the 1st track says: "slow down..." Everytime i listen 2 this album i actually slow down, but not in the zen & a bit idealistic way "Big Calm" makes me slow down. No, i slow down in a more realistic mood, the kinda mood that makes you love life because it's both magnificent & tragic...

Well, i just love these 2 albums & i wanted 2 share wink
