does Grace sample Sly?

Just heard Sly Stone's 'Family Affair' on the radio, and the rhythm track suddenly brought Grace Jones' 'Pull up to the Bumper' to mind - did I imagine this or is there a sample? Someone here knows I'm sure smile

I don't think that was a sample. Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare played bass and drums on that track.

i don't think there was a lot of sampling going on during the sly & robbie years, other than little sound effect blurts and whatnot.

You're right. Most of the stuff that was laid down for Grace was pretty original.
