KYLIE MINOGUE MAKES HISTORY!!!!

KYLIE HONOURED WITH THE 2007 MUSIC INDUSTRY TRUSTS' AWARD!

Kylie Minogue, Pop Princess, icon and national treasure, is the 2007 recipient of the prestigious annual Music Industry Trusts' Award, the first woman in the event's 16 year history to receive the honour.

Previous recipients include Elton John and Bernie Taupin, Sir George Martin, Michael Parkinson, John Barry and Peter Gabriel. The Award will be presented to Kylie on the evening of 29 October at London's Grosvenor House in the presence of over 1200 guests from the UK's music and entertainment industry.

The MITS Award Committee are delighted that Kylie is this year's honouree. The Award is being presented to Kylie in "recognition of her universally acclaimed status as an icon of pop and style achieved over a 20 year career which has seen her reinvent, experiment and inspire. Kylie has established one of the longest and most successful careers as a performer in contemporary popular music and her tenacity and determination to succeed, on and off the stage, have been an inspiration to so many. Kylie has a unique place in this country's heart and an appeal that seems to grow ever wider. We salute Kylie for her unique gifts as one of the great entertainers of all time."

"It is an incredible honour to be the recipient of this year's Music Industry Trust's Award and I am truly thrilled to be recognized in this way," Kylie responded. "As well as being a fantastic evening, this award ceremony also raises much needed funds for The Brit Trust and Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy and it is a pleasure for me to be involved."

David Munns, Chairman of the Award committee, said;
"There is no doubt that of our 15 Award recipients to date, Kylie is by far the most glamorous and we're delighted to present her with the 2007 Music Industry Trust's Award. She deserves this award for her success over 20 years, staying at the top in one of the toughest professions and inspiring millions with her grace, dignity and humanity."

Kylie was in Cannes last week for the Film festival and she has sent in some great shots from her visit to share with you!

Kylie was the guest of Yves Saint Laurent and their head designer Stefano Pilati at the Cinema Against Aids gala, organised by AMFAR, where she raised hundreds of thousands of dollars with an impromptu duet with Sharon Stone!

The pair performed Kylie's classic hits 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head' and 'The Loco-motion' to rapturous applause.

she is one of the most successful female entertainers in the world.

i'm not certain of the cultural impact of her though.

i find her music always to be uplifting and fun. she is role model for up and coming female singers.

For starters, she's had a 20 year career in pop music, which only a few women can lay claim to.

Then give Cher the fucking award. And 20 years bullshit. There were many years where she had no record contract or very low record sales from albums no one cared about. Just because you've been around a lot doesn't mean nothing.

This is a Brit-based award, and Kylie has had more than 20 Top 5 hits there, so I can understand why they'd give her the award. I'm unaware of "many years" where Kylie has not been signed to a label or released albums no one cared about (her only flop is Impossible Princess).

It's naive to think this isn't a sympathy based award. It could/should have gone to Tina Turner or Aretha Franklin. Women who have been around a long time and had an impact. Not some generic disco tart.
