Havne't heard it but I can definitely see why they released it - Neo Soul artists don't have any other real choice but to go after the Adult Contemporary market since Neo Soul doesn't sell that well. Make Afros not War

Agreed. She writes great material. I've enjoyed her collaborations with Sade's band.

This is an album of jazz standards. Giving it a low rating because you want another neo-soul album or don't like jazz seems a little narrow-minded. Her voice and personal style make Amel stand out in the crowd. After producing several great soul albums, she chose to record some "lovely" arranged jazz standards (a style in which her voice works quite well). No, there aren't any upbeat songs here. But that does not mean the songs aren't any good. Not by a long shot. There are some beautiful songs on this album. Yeah, I agree her other work is great (Groove Theory, Sweetback and other solo albums), but I also think Lovely Standards is a nice addition to that already stellar catalog. Give the album a chance. Don't listen to one or two opinions. And if you're stuck in neo-soul land, keep listening to Amel's other albums and let everyone else enjoy the new one.

I listened to that shit and it's not even worth downloading. Her worst album yet, she seems to be getting worse and worse. Her debut was hot and I can still blast it today: [Edited 6/18/07 16:46pm] I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

well i like jazz, but i don't think that she sings jazz well. it's not her forte in my opinion. I applaud her for taking the risk, but it's one risk that she shouldn't take anymore. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.
