If Minneapolis is considered a crack house, then that’s where I live. wink

These picture are extremes. Yes, the picture here and the photos of her in magazines and CD literature. Neither represent her normal appearance. But both are great for the Internet. It’s what sets it off.

This place would almost be dead without pictures to comment about.

The point (at least mine) is that no one is worthy of idol worship (if no one is doing that here, why are they responding)?

Unless being fucked up is worthy.

In which case, there are a lot of choices open to you.

John Waters is forgiven, because he likes this stuff (and I like him).

Worrying about her? You bet.

But that’s a totally different thread.

Everyone in Minny isn't on drugs and alcohol and looks anorxeic. Stop it..lol Hell, I have a cousin that's been on drugs for 30 years that still looks better than this.

I'm with Anxiety....I do love a train wreck and I'm not dissing her looking casual.

Lastly, you're flip floppin'....or something because one minute you're saying this look is NORMAL but its just not normal for Amy? confuse

The pic with her walking down the street (the one compared to the Alien), she's fully made up and she is too skinny. It is what it is...

and Ottensen...giggle

Nah. I often flip-flop my position, but strangely, not here. wink

I really appreciate your posts, though. smile

How else can someone explain themselves fully or understand what maybe confusing?

I just went with the antonym for “normal” in my discussion, because “normal” can be a very troubling word anywhere.

If you look close enough we’re all unique like a snowflake (and blah blah blah). You know what I mean?

I was merely saying -- and it was a very minor point -- that Amy’s pictures are extremes, but Amy herself (minus the record companies and other bullshit) is probably deep down fairly normal. A gal not to be worshiped (like all people). I didn't say she was normal in all regards; fortunately far from it.

I don't make any claims that people are worshiping her here at all. However, I'm sure there are people who do, who have. That's for each person's conscience to decide, but certainly not mine.

People are having fun on this thread and that's very cool to me.

But I only meant “normal” in the broadest sense of the word.

The number of people that will have problems with alcohol or drugs in this lifetimes – especially including those that never report it to anyone – will exceeds 50%. I can never prove it, just like I can never prove the number of homosexuals in the population.

Amy is an extreme right now. So are a lot of the other "perfect" publicity photos taken of her. But this is what gets us all talking; the extremes.

I'm worried about her and what this industry does to people. But sick industry aside, Amy is ultimately responsible for herself. She allowed herself to get bent (possibly even by others).

Looking at her deep down as a normal person who should not be idolized (except for her voice) will never compete with pictures. No one will ever stop the dunk, either.

If people get defensive in the face of my awkward opinions, so be it. But I much prefer explaining my position.

Please continue to laugh, it's what makes the world go round and usually what I'm up to.

Trying not to be funny in a funny thread will get you no where fast.

But that's who I am. But thankfully someone was there to make it worth the time.

Yep, she usd to look so much healthier. I saw her years ago at a jazz fest here in Europe, she was maybe 20....and she was THICK. Not FAT, but healthy and womanly, with big boobs and everything. Now she looks like walking death. I understand how the pressures of being in a glamour profession can push you to be thinner, but even I (working around that sort of industry) believe there is such a thing as TOO thin. If a person wants to thin down some of the meat a bit to get in those cute dresses, fine, but she maybe should have stopped at about this size:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=5PVp-C4ai1k

now she just looks like a punked out cokehead Brit version of what I call 'the Ritchie Girls'- you know, this new breed of Hollywood chick that refuses to weigh more than a 6 week fetus confused

Okay I've seen the pics of her that somebody posted on this thread when her "first album" came out or something? so tell me why she looked way normal then, than she does not, and she's supposedly the "hot" artist this year? She's got to know that she looks way older now than she did a few years ago. Can somebody show her a mirror?

I'm not trying to "win" confuse

I was being sarcastic regarding your last post but something was lost in translation. whofarted

I have no reverence for celebrity but I do respect and understand the human condition. I think all you're seeing is an honest response to some shocking pictures that are NOT normal.

I would say all that I've said even if Amy was posting here herself and offer some assistance in seeking treatment.

You are correct. We are all different like snowflakes, etc. etc.

oh you mean the cd 'Frank'? yeah she was fuller then. i don't know how or if the new wave of fame she's experiencing in the states would influence her to change her appearance back to that of her thick days. but drugs and alcohol does that to you. messes up your body and your mind, so...

My aunt liked those old men, I mean, not your daddy, but your granddaddy.

I agree that Amy isn't a total alcoholic . . . yet anyway. There were a number of alkies in my family and one common trait most alkies have is that potbelly. While skinny, they all had a potbelly, I don't know the medical reason for this, but even my neighbor who hits the bottle more than food has a belly to the point where my kid asked her when her baby was coming out. My mom thinks it was in my aunt's genes because her father was an alcoholic. None of her other sisters became an alcoholic and they all grew up together and had the same kind of life, so there was nothing that happened to her to drive her to be so self-destructive. Either Amy is a) sick, b) anorexic or c) hitting some drugs. It's sad because people probably did give her a hard time about her weight as the entertainment field normally does.

I'm getting so tired of these women being put under pressure to be small. She looked fine the way she was. I can't imagine how it is if you're already sensitive with a destructive streak, suddenly get sandblasted with fame, your record company has you on a relentless schedule so they can milk everthing they can out of you cause you may only have 15 minutes, then have bod image problems in a skinny celebrity obsessed 21st century. Um, um, um...who knows, maybe she will have to retire early to get herself back. Either that or die early. And youre right, alkies normally have pot bellies.

And you know if she dies from and overdose or something, they'll want to turn her into some tragic, misunderstood creature and try to glorify her death and make money off it like they did Anna Nicole. But it isn't just the industry that does it. How many of the kids would have liked her before? They would have called her fat too. My husband has this cool book of nudes from the Victorian era and those women in there are a variety of shapes. Some are real thin, but the most are around the size that Amy was or a little bit heavier. It would be nice to see that come back again.

I agree wholeheartedly nod. but do you think that's because we're getting older? I alo notice that before she started getting the mass market publicity push in the U.S., I only saw her touring scene here (in Europe) being more the jazz festival circuit, leaning heavily towards neo soul in addition to traditional jazz. It seems that those audiences being a bit older and more worldly, don't care about a persons weight, or if their gimmick is SLICK, they just want the band to be TIGHT and the singer to SING.Or SANG. Or whatever cool

I fall in the catagory of folks that just want my singers to SANG. Period. you can be thick if want to, slim down if you want to. But frankly, songs like Winehouses 'Just Friends' or her cover of 'Valerie' are too fierce for her to be jacking up because she's too jacked herself, knowing full well her vocal abilities and the fact that sober she could TEAR IT UP. Umph, but sadly some artists have to go through that nasty destructive period, I guess. And show business being what it is there are too many people sitting back counting dollars and making checks now for them to care about whether the chile can stand up onstage or looks like walking death. Long as she makes it through the show and the bucks come rolling in wink

I'm confused where you got idolizing out of a bunch of folks having a discussion (at times serious and at times in jest) on this thread. Its not anything remotely like the posts that one finds in say, P-Music & More or Associated Artists. lol

...and besides, if folks want to idolize others I say let'em have at it. It's not something that personally affects me or anyone else here, so what's the big deal?

This has already been covered.

And the only thing more annoying than me, is me repeating myself.

But it’s long, so I wouldn’t bother without aid of drugs.

If I shorten my answer, I knew this would happen.

But trying to hold a discussion on a picture thread is my gaff. smile

I saw her (for the first time) singing live. She's was staggering/slurring ...etc. I was very dissappointed and wrote her off as some gimmick artist, with unique vocal style. I don't like the "rehab" song at all.
Is her first album legit? Not totally understanding lyrics here and there is ok, but all the time is annoying.

Sad but true, that Business we call 'Show'. I'm actually watching a similar situation in my personal life right now and its a trip. it's like the elephant in the room that nobody will address directly as to not upset the 'balance of things' disbelief

Amy's first album? You mean Frank? That one is more jazzy than Back To Black and not as refined. She still seemed to be searching for her style a bit on Frank whereas she sounds more confident on Back To Black. I've seen Amy live twice in NY and both times she sounded fine.

But trying to hold a discussion on a picture thread is my gaff. smile

hmmm, ok...was just asking a question, didn't mean to put u on defense as an artist, baby-

peace onto you and your journey for artistic truth, dearie cool

You're writing such great stuff here on this caption thread! And I say that in all sincerity. smile

"I don't make any claims that people are worshiping her here at all. However, I'm sure that there are people who do, who have. That's for each person's conscience to decide, but certainly not mine. " – Brendan

I warned people about quoting myself. Pompous. Skip me once, shame on you. Skip me twice, shame on me. -- George Bush Attempt

If only I had known this was really a question I would have embraced it like a long lost friend.

When I'm perfect maybe I'll be able to read intent as well.

Well, here goes some practice, those words like "peace", "artist" "baby" and "dearie" are meant to be ironic with me?

"I get it." "I get it." -- Triumph, the insult comic dog.
